Reasonable Offer
I know people have been posting like crazy wanting price help, but that is pretty much what this board is about. I posted a few weeks ago comparing two 2003 AT PPW Touring and Enthusiasts, but they had 71k and 87k, and since I had found a 2003 Daytona Blue Track for 13,700. Unfortunately, that car was sold before I could get the funds. Now I've found something from a dealer... I know their price is too steep. But here's the run-down.
2003 Redline MT Touring
Frost Leather
27,000 Miles
Asking Price: $16,900
Now, KBB has these estimates...
Excellent Condition
Trade-In: $12,975
Private Party: $15,300
Good Condition
Trade-In: $12,275
Private Party: $14,500
And NADA estimates...
Average Trade-In
$14,850.
Clean Trade-In
$16,000
So I'm just wondering what a good average to offer would be. Personally, I'm thinking something in the 14,000 range. The pics show the car looks to be super nice, but I need to go take a look at it obviously. I did an autocheck and it has had the same owner and was just recently traded off on 1/08/09. So they couldn't have possibly given them a good trade-in price considering the market. What does everyone else think? I'll have around $2000-$2500 to put down on the car. I would consider financing through them, my bank only can give me an 8% interest, they might could do better... That is also with my parents co-signing.

Lets say you get this car out the door for 16k. Meaning 14k, plus tax or whatever else. I say move up to a 2008 for 21k , or about 5k more. I now have seen, no less than 4 dealers advertising in the 21k range for 2008's. Use your same down payment and get a newer vehicle.

Say I get the 2003 for 15,000 with a $2,000 down payment and 8% interest [what my bank tells me they could give me] then it is $263 a month.
Of course, that is a $100 difference, but, the new 2008 would have factory warranty whereas the 2003 would not. So there are some pluses and minus' to the whole ordeal. I have read that the dealers are giving $2500 cash back or 1.9% interest (I most likely would not qualify for this). Is your $21,000 estimate WITH or WITHOUT the $2500 rebate. If I could get the $2500 on top of the 21,000 then it would be a great deal.
Another thing, I would really like to have leather seats and cruise control which puts me in the category of Touring, and I think those prices brand new are starting at 32,000. So ehhhh.
Well, I guess I see it as I am making a huge decision and I don't want to rush into something like I did with my Civic. I just don't want to screw up and get the wrong car for the wrong price, etc, etc.

Well yeah in the $21k range he's talking about you're looking at 08 Base models, but it would have warranty and be new. And yes those crazy low prices do have the $2500 rebate built into them typically...not sure if they're *that* desperate yet to be dropping new 08's into the high teens after rebate. Who knows though, might happen.
I think they finally got the car right in 07, and anything prior to that is going to be a roll of the dice IMO. I would never take a chance on an 03-06 if I had the choice personally.

If you like the car, I would offer $13k.
However, if you are going to have to borrow the money to buy the car, I'd suggest you buy really cheap basic transportation and put the money saved in car payments and insurance into a savings account until you can buy a car for cash. In a couple of years you might be able to afford a used 07 touring.
