he's saying his 350z is the track edition.

I think a dealer demo 370z with 6k miles is worth more then 24 personally. you are playing a game of lowball and cross your fingers at this point, it may or may not work. I hope they take you seriously as a buyer!

Thanks Entaille....I'm learning! You're probably right regarding the low ball offer but it's easier to go up in my price. I hope they take into account that not only did I buy my Altima there, I also get it serviced there, my wife get's HER Altima serviced there and so do my neighbors 2 Nissan's. Hope that matters for something! If it's meant to be mine...I'll get it!

I think so lowly of dealerships, I find it really hard to be loyal to any, but I really do hope they take that into consideration - take a smaller profit margin on the sale to retain a customer, who also gets his service there. it would make sense.

you are playing all the right cards - just matters how low they are willing to go. most buyers are too impatient to try all the tactics you are working with - but you can definitely score a good deal if you hold out.

I agree...the only thing worse than going to a dealer is going to the dentist (hope you're not a dentist Entaille ) I doubt if they're going to go out of business if they let that go for a couple k less than hoped...at least in this economy! And there has to be some incentive for them that we get our cars serviced there. I still think that they are going to have a hard time selling the z now this time of year. Even if I get it, it's going to be in the garage most of the winter! Thanks for your input

I know...I got a loooong way to go My offer was $22.5k before so $1.5k more would be $24k which I would be prepared to go as high. That may be my final offer however. But then....you know how much I want the 370z!!! I don't let them know that though So do you think the 370z is worth $24k? As hard as it is, I will probably wait until Wed to call them. Ideally I would like them to call me first. We'll see how it goes! Check back okay! Nice to hear from ya
I meant $1.5k more in total, i.e. you are accepting $1k less on the trade-in and offering $500 more on the 370, or $23.5k. Get them to show their cards first if you can, simply say you are willing to negotiate to make the deal happen - how much out of pocket (minus tax and tags) will they go. . .See if you can meet at $2k more, or $17k on the trade-in and $24k on the 370, which would put you up from $5k out of pocket to $7k. Do you know if CT, like NJ, allows a tax credit based on your trade-in? That would save you a lot of money in tax if that's the case (and I hope it is - make sure you know for sure!).

As Entaille said, auto-x, or autocross, is a type of enthusiast performance driving. Here are a few pics from past autocrosses of me in my wife's Z before I bought my own:

Here you can see the Z is quite capable of hanging with other impressive cars:

and here is an idea of some maximum speeds for various cars - it's not all about raw power! http://lmsportscarclub.org/results/2009_AUTOX_06.pdf

It's an Enthusiast-turned-track CAR, but not a track model originally. I also think the 370Z is fairly worth $24k. I see a bunch of used 370s on cars.com asking price of ~$27k, likely negotiable at least $2k if not $3k, so his offer should be considered serious. They are holding tighter on the price because they likely wanted to give $15k for the trade-in, but accepted $17k so are backing that $2k off the flexibility in the 370 pricing.

Hi...It's been a while since I posted here and I temporarily forgot my password and it took me a while to find the Buying/Leasing forum that this was posted on! Yikes... Nice to hear from you Scotts. I have not yet heard from the dealer but I know they still have the car. I may call them at the end of the week either Thursday or Friday and plan to come down to $17,000 for my Altima ($1000 less than my original offer and what they agreed to) and go up to $24,000 ($1,500 more than my offer to them). The fact that I still have not heard from them tells me that they either thought my original offer was too low to even negotiate or they are willing to sit on it for some reason. Remember their price was $26,400. I would think that it would be worth their while to renegotiate with me since I bought my Altima there and get it serviced with them as does my wife with her Altima and my neighbor brings their 2 Nissans there for servicing and they too bought them there. I brought them a lot of business over the years. Anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for keeping in touch and check back in. Take care in No Cal country

Default New approach!

This may help me to make the deal! To try to make a long story short, my second vehicle is a '98 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4. Due to a rust corrision problem in the chassis which my model year is involved, Toyota is offering to buy back my truck at 150% of the Kelly Blue Book value. They just want them off the road for obvious liability issues. I turned mine in yesterday and have a free rental until I get my check. So...now that I need a replacement car/truck for the Tacoma, I can sweeten the deal with Nissan in that I will buy a used car from them (cash) if I can get the deal I want on the z. I should get the check in about 10 days at which time I will sit down with Nissan and try to negotiate 2 deals. Unfortunatley I have to wait until I get the check as I'm not sure how much exactly I'll get on the truck in figuring what I can afford on a used car. I just hope the z is still for sale in 10 days or so! It's still there now! This also increases the chances of them calling ME before I get the check. We'll see! I'm a firm believer that if it's meant to happen, I'll have a 370z in my garage this winter and another reliable car to make my daily 1 hour commute to work in and in the Spring, I will be zzzzzzzing a happy tune!

What else will you buy from them (another truck)? It would seem silly for them to not pass up the deal to make 1.5x the $ by having two decent deals on used cars. Although you have to wait for the $, it doesn't mean you can't go in to talk with them about your new plan and kick some #s around.

I'm impressed that you are doing this amount of homework...I searched for several months and did alot of homework, but nothing near what I just read. In the end I got what I'd consider a good fair deal, but then again mine was one that had the engine replaced due to oil consumption and I paid 18k for it, plus $877 for the extended warranty to 7/75000. I also got 19k for my trade(07 Frontier LE Crew Cab), which was like $500 bucks under what I owed on it! Anyway, good luck...hope it works out.

Thanks so much FATPUBUS! If you read at least most of the threads to this post, I give most of my credit to Scotts300! From him, not only have I learned a great deal about z's, I also have become much more savy and knowledgable when it comes time to negotiate a deal. I wish I had this knowledge when I purchased my other vehicles! Thanks again

Default No Deal!

The dealer would not budge from their offer of $26,400 on the 370z. I was willing to come down to $17,000 for my Altima and up to $24,000 for the z. The fact that I told them that I was in the market for another used vehicle which I would buy cash from them did not motivate them to sell. So unless I hear from them, the deal is over. I'm sure there's another z somewhere else just waiting for me. Thank you everyone for your help especially you Scotts300! As the song goes; " You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away and know when to run ". Take care all and enjoy your Zs!

Dang, sorry to hear that. I think that's pretty silly on their part, I guess they think the economy is doing better! They had the option to sell two cars at a profit and obtain another car to turn a profit. It doesn't add up, but so be it.

Good luck with the rest of your search!

Keep looking. I'd also keep tabs on that 370. If they still have it on the lot in another month, it never hurts to give the sales manager a call and renew your offer. If I recall, you have two Altimas and the Tacoma that you just traded in. I would suggest that you replace the Tacoma right away with another truck or an SUV. Then, sell the Altima privately and hang on the cash. Then, you will be ready to make a purchase without having to worry about the trade-in. Then you can make a straight purchase offer on a Z without having to negotiate a trade. If a dealer is trying to reduce inventory, they don't necessarily want a trade-in.

Good luck.

Default Hey...found another!

Okay...I'm over loosing the 370z cause I found another to take to the dance. I realized that I really wanted the Roadster anyway. I have found an '07 350zr at another dealership. It's the Touring model, 11,800k, one owner, with lots of power options. It's not my favorite color but I can live with that. I have contacted the dealer, told him my situation with the trade and that I will be looking at buying another used car also to drive back and forth to work. He said he would give me the $17,000 for my Altima trade which is what I want and would come down from $23,995 to $22,995 for the z and he has other used cars in my price range for a 2nd vehicle It's all in my financial range! I am going to see and drive it this Saturday. I really feel good about this one and hope this is it. Hey Scotts300, what do you think about the 07 zr?
