That rationale does not make any sense. Under the Cash for Clunkers program, used cars were "smashed up" because the buyer received the incentive to buy a brand new car. Basically, it was "one for one". That buyer is no longer in the market for a used car because he/she just bought a brand new car. In fact, if anything, the incentives from brand new cars should be creating downward pressure on the prices of used cars with the logic that the buyer will buy the superior product ceteris paribus (ie. price).

In fact, this ENTIRE thread topic doesn't make sense. The 350z is a high volume sports car. When has ANYONE heard that used prices go up on a high production volume sports car with less than 20 years from date of production? Never.

This entire thread is either perpetuated by the misinformed or it's just wishful thinking on some people who are desperate to unload their used cars.

Any car can have its value rise to the owners refuse to sell them cheap...

While I dont think the cash for clunkers has had anything to do with it, I have seen, locally, Z prices get a tad higher. Esp the post DE models.

I also expect a large decline in the price of the z to compete with other used cars such as the mustang GT, which will hit used car lots like the plague due to the new Mustang line-up. Just MHO

That is possible, but highly unlikely and daresay, improbable, as such a scenario would involve a huge collusion among a majority of 350z owners.

A scenario such as the one bolded above would require two major factors:
1. Supply side action - the collusion explained above
2. Constant and inflexible demand which is certainly impossible for many reasons including the bolded statement towards the end of your post that you conveniently provided.

I agree that I find the effect of CFC to be minimal, but if anything, I've seen VQ35HR prices go down. I am certainly not saying that you're lying and what you are describing could be the case based on a very specific locale or specific sample of the population. But, caveat emptor, you do, in fact, own a "post DE" 350z and as such there may be a potential for a conflict of interest.

Default price

Buy what you really want
if black is what you want, be patience, it will come along
and Pay only what you can really afford and what you feel is the right price but of course it depending on the conditions and accessories
most of all you have to feel good about the purchase.
good luck

Lol seriously. I just got my 07 Base after driving my 05 WRX AWD for 3 years, haha the rain was a surprise for me. I lost traction like 3 times, you really need to get use to driving like a granny in the rain cause the car does spin easily.

Check out/test drive the Z and tell us.

It seems like a great price on a HR Z but you need to check it out first.

I love driving the Z in the rain, as long as it's not in heavy traffic. If you control the throttle well, you can control the amount of spin so you do not loose control easily. You will get used to the tail swinging out and using your "butt gyro" to know where your car is headed.

The worst part about it is that I have to commit to it before I test drive it :/

It's in San Francisco and I'll be flying there within this week and drive it down if the car is in the excellent condition as it is stated by the owner. Carfax is showing clean records and the asking price was 19K, but lowered it to 17K

Anyone got tips on committing to a car before even test driving?

How is it a "test" drive if you have to commit to it before buying?

Sorry for the misleading words, I meant that its a big gamble because I am flying to go see the car. So I have to get as much information possible and and almost make up my mind before I fly there.

get the carfax right now (seller should provide it), and pay for the car to be inspected at nissan. best 2 things you can do without seeing the car. if everything checks out then go fly to see it.

aw man, I might go back to one of the previous cars I saw. I walked away because it had too many cosmetic damages, but the engine runs strong and it still has a 10K transferable warranty.

It just needs few cosmetic fixes and new rear tires

It's a 2006 Black Touring Model with 50K miles

Final price of $14,400

Can't pull the trigggerrrrrrrrrr
