Default How does the 05 Model compare against the 07 "HR" Model? Performance Wise?

I have researched that the 07 "HR" Engine is streets ahead of the previous 03 model. (Ie. noticably faster) However, I was aware that in 2005, the 350z had a slight tweak in its performance and I was wondering is the difference between the 05 and 07 that great? Is the HR engine just simply the best and anything less is totally worthless?

Basically, I am trying to find a reason why I should buy a cheaper 05/06 over an 07/08. If the HR engine isnt "night and day" difference over the 05/06 then Im happy.

I should mention that I am only interested in straight-line speed. So benifits in handling, ride, etc don't bother me. Although I read there is a problem with oil consumption in 05/06s... is that ACCROSS THE BOARD affecting the majority?

Regards,

Thanks.

I would personally go with the HR if your looking into horsepower. The gains are much larger from just bolts ons and a tune. Its overall by far the best engine to be on the 350z. Although I do drive an 06 my engine I would love to have an HR..

Well like any car the newer model will have better performance its just how it works. You could always buy an 05-06 build motor and boost the crap out out of it then difference isn't important except cheaper to boost older z's

Test drive both to obtain your own opinion If you can afford the HR, go that route.

Take a look at 100% OEM down to the tire. The VQ35HR motor bumped me from #10 to #28. That is a fact.
