Default Thinking of buying a 2006 350z

So im considering purchasing a 2006 350z enthusiast that ive been interested in for a while, I went to take a look at it today, the cars got a custom exhaust and an upgraded stereo system thats worth around the same as the KBB value of the car itself, it has 85000 miles on it and seems like its been taken care of and he wants $15000 for it. My main concern was this whole oil burning issue with the 2006 z but he explained that he never had any issues with it burning oil and had actually taken it in to the dealer to have it checked, and they had him drive the car for two weeks and bring it back and so on, and the car showed no signs of the oil issue. im just concerned about buying the car with 85000 miles on it, id like some feedback on paying 15000 for the car as far as how much life the engine has left on it, from what ive read they are pretty reliable cars aside from the oil issue.

I bought my 06 touring as a buyback from the dealer...it had 27000 on it, and the engine was new. I paid 19000 for it. 85000 is alotta miles for the year it is, but I would not see a problem if it has been well maintained and proven to be (svc records etc...). 15k seems a tad high to me considering the mileage tho. I's try to talk the seller dowm as much as possible. Also an upgraded exhaust could just as well be a $300 set up or a $2000 set up, same with the stereo. I'd definitely try to research the oil issue tho. If it is a rev up engine, chances are that it is or has had the oil burning issue. Check Carfax, find out what dealer allegedly tested it and see what info you can find out. Either way, good luck!

Well the guy im thinking of buying it from is a friend of a friend haha, he actually works at a local car audio/visual shop. The stereo system is a hertz mille system that is worth atleast 12k+ and hes actually going to warranty the speakers and give me a brand new set which is also a plus, yea the price does seem pretty high considering the kbb private party value is about 14.2k but in all honesty id break the 15k mark buying speakers and amps for the car anyway, and this one is just sick, but ill definately look at the car fax and so on to verify the dealer test, i was really just concerned about the high miles. dont want the car to take a dump like 2 months after i buy it haha, thanks for the fast reply

Sure, I'd say if the system alone has that much in it, buy it! BUT if you do, and later find it's rapidly drinking oil, then it's new engine time. Better safe than sorry tho, so definitely check on that. As far as the miles, it's a California car in good climate which means longer life...in my opinion. I'm in Tx where my last 3 used cars had more than 215000 miles on them when I was done. If you take care of it and stay on top of maintenance before problems start, it should last a great while.

As far as the 06 Rev-up engine goes, I remember reading up on the oil consumption that not ALL engines burn oil like crazy~

Not 100% sure but it seems that engines manufactured between Feb and May seem to have this ugly trait~

Any other engines built after that seems to be free of the plague~

My rev-up sadly did not have the oil burning issue I would have loved a new engine on Nissan. 48k and a nitrous system and it's actually burning *less* oil than it was last year...

$12k in speakers alone surprises me o.0 I'd buy the car and sell those. lol

My rev-up has not had any issues so far and I just hit 52,000 miles. I would defiantly talk the price down though cause that seems pretty high for that kinda mileage, just my two cents.

Lots of miles......

Hell I only have 12000 so on my 2003...

It is an old car outdated styling and an old model buy something newer...

Personally I moth balled my 03 once the new one came out why bother driving it anymore......

Did you find a Z with a more reasonable number of miles?
