Default Buying first Z, Dealership or Private Seller California

Which is better to buy from ? My family we mostly buy all our cars from dealerships, but i was wondering what would be a better deal, I just dont want a thrashed beat up Z as my brand new car, Know what I mean ?

I would like mostly everything stock as possible, because i want to build the car my own way.

Its a 07-08 HR if it matters

either way as long as you check out the car, you should be able to make an educated decision on whether it is a good find.
I know there are some nice clean cars for sale on this site, probably taken care of better than most.

Buying from a dealership is not going to keep you from getting a thrashed / beat up car. You might find a good car from a dealership, or you might find one from a private party.

Arranging your own financing through your favorite financial institution will help you keep your options open and stick to a price point.

No offense, but it sounds like you might not be the savviest buyer out there. You might want to take a friend with you to help you evaluate the cars and the deals.

If I hadnt bought my Z from a dealership, I wouldve bought it from a member off this forum. Some cars on here I would've traveled acorss the country for.

Just to expand on what Blastoff99 said, try to get acquire financing through your bank first. That way you know how much you are approved for and therefore giving you "purchasing power."

price from private seller is usually cheaper than a dealer

Dealership's have access to the same financing as you do at your own bank, but in some states, like CA, they are allowed to ADD APR to the bank-approved rate. Meaning, that you/your parents may get approved at 5% (which is high) and the dealership can tell you that you got approved at 6% and take the extra profit.

I agree, and would one-up this statement and say it's nearly always true.

OP - if you are buying a used car, do you know where the dealership gets it from? People that would have sold privately but decided to trade-in OR a lease-return. Either way, used is used, and the private party is better for us Z-owners as consumers. Just spring the 100 bucks to get a pre-purchase inspection done on it. You can easily work that in with the seller. Buying it from a forum member makes it a bit more safe as well since you can typically get some information on the history of the car and share your thoughts with the rest of the forum for open discussion.

Don't be afraid to drive. I don't know where in CA you are located, but there are used Zs all over this damn state. I'm here, too, and they are for sale everywhere assuming you'll travel even 2 hours.
