Default Buying a Used 350z

Hi everyone,

My name is Ken, and I am new to this forum. I've looked through quite a lot of cars and decided that 350z is the best suit for me. These couple of days I've been lurking around this forum and doing a lot of research in general on the car. I'm happy to say that I'm loving it more and more every minute. I searched over used car dealer sites, craigslist, keepthepricereal and other classified local ads. I hope all the 350z experts can bring me some advice on this one.

For the price is it worthit?

Depends on the market, but seems like a fair price to me, not the cheapest, but seems to be about average.
theres a whole thread on what people payed for their Z, check it out...

Ken, there are issues you need to consider. There were a lot of TSBs from back in the day. Not to talk down to you but those are "technical service bulletins" that Nissan released regarding what they discovered to be issues they realized the average buyer shouldn't be on the hook for. So Nissan agreed to pay for them on our cars. However, a lot of previous owners were remiss in getting them taken care of for free. But every dealer will know if the owner of the car you are considering, handled that stuff. So check that first, because if they didn't you're on the hook to pay for those repairs (except the safety ones).

The most important is the gas filler pipe from the earlier models.

I think that's too much. I bought my 03 with 72k miles for 11.5 cash. For an 04 with that many miles I wouldnt pay more than 13.5 for it. That is max I'd offer, but the prices differ from location to location. Good luck!

my 05 had 25000 miles on it and was loaded for only 12,500. i live in Pittsburgh and drove to VA for it. My same car in pgh would go for like 18,000. I would never pay that much for an 04 regardless of where it is. Good luck either way!

As is a known piece of information on buying a Z,prices will vary by supply&demand
across the country. For example,Z's in the region around MN,WI&Illinois are priced very
high. This car may be a bargain in that area.Lets get real. You may very likely
get a the car for a grand less.Just ask.Don't be swayed by the usual posts about,"I got my Z for.....",not a good deal.Furthermore, from the pic, those look like track wheels.
With the "Brimbo" brakes, its a educated guess that the Z is a track.Duh!Tracks are usually priced a bit higher. The owner prolly does not know its a track.Thats good in negotiating
a price. The last thing you wanna do is blurt out,"wow, thats a track"to the owner.Issues like recalls,TSB's that have more than likely been handled by previous owners.
Like it,buy it!

I agree that $13,500 is around what I'd pay. I paid $12,700 for my '05 performance with 77k miles and I consider that to be on the high end. Only thing is that I knew it was the one I wanted and it was in the best shape of any of the 30+ Zs I drove/looked at.

Just bought an 04 with 86K for $13,000. One of 2 cars in my price range within 50 miles. It depends on supply and demand.

I just bought an '03 with 55k for $14,500, was the best deal in my area. We are in two totally different regions, I'd say go for it if vehicle report checks out.

Ken, a 2004-2005 starts at around $14-15K and sinks for mileage. At that kind of mileage, you should be looking at $12K for rough shape, probably $13K for good shape.

For example, a friend of mine bought an '03 with 17,000 miles on it for $15.5K about three years ago. You should be able to do better than that.

OP, from personal experience I wouldn't go with anything but an HR engine Z. Spend a little extra $$$$ and go with a 07-08 model. I promise you, you will not regret it. Much better engineering, faster, better personality, and it doesn't hurt to have that extra kick whenever you cross some punk in an evo or srt-4. Also responds better to modding. And I just know I'm going to get some flaming from the DE Engine guys. Please don't bother, I've owned both and can attest to my experience.

Have you test driven one yet? Personally, I wouldn't set my mind on a car unless I've driven one and know I like them.

brimbo brakes... part of the "we-dont-know anything-about-cars" package from the used car lot

from what i see, too much.

i paid 15.9K for my 2005 with 38K miles. keep searching and welcome, dont settle, find one you love that makes sense.
