Default Buying a 350Z this week,.. need any advice/help

Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a 350Z. I have a few criteria:

1) Must be a manual
2) Must not be a convertible
3) Must have under 40k Miles
4) And don't want Blue or Orange.

Other than that.. I'm fine.. Cloth vs. Leather.. no big deal.. etc.

I have 17k Cash to spend.

I've been looking around, and I've found deals every month or so for a 350Z with 20-30k miles for like 14.9-15.xxxx. But, I'm at a crunch time to buy.. and will be buying this week/weekend.

The classifieds really didn't have anything on the first or second page that was close enough. I live in B'ham, AL.. and am willing to travel about 2 hours.. but don't want to drive 4-5+ hours then back for a relatively common car.

Best I've found right now is a private owner who has one for 19.5k .. and for cash he's willing to go 17.5k .. Has about 29k miles on it.. 2008 model. Sounds like a good deal to me. But he's not responding very often.. so not sure how committed he is going to be.

I guess basically, anything I should watchout/look for when test driving one I'm about to buy?

Also.. I've used Autotrader, and craigslist (and general google searches) but only a few really pop up that meet the criteria -- Of course I can pay 28,000 and get one.. but that's way more than I have to spend.

Do you guys have any other sources, or ideas on how to find one within 2-3 hours of my location?

I didn't see a "WTB" section on the forum.. so just posting here.

Carmax has a few -- but they are SO high on their prices and are non negotiable, plus there are hidden fee's. Usually any I find even close to my price range is in California or similar, and would be $1000 to have it shipped to my local carmax dealer. But that would be somewhat ideal, as I'm selling my car which is a 2006 Pontiac solstice with 28k miles,.. with every option possible added to it from the factory and is in immaculate condition (garaged, etc).

I bought the Solstice for 15.3k 21 months ago,.. and it looks like I'm only gonna get 9-10k at BEST out of it from Carmax.. Which is a shame, but that's how it goes I guess. My payoff is $8500 so I will be free and clear of it and have a little money / profit from selling it to Carmax.

Just picking you experts brains if you have any advice, ideas, etc to offer.

Thanks for your time!

Does your budget include tax and financing?

Get a 2007-2008 of you want updated interior, and better engine.

They are hard to find with low miles and clean carfax.

I found my 2004 touring on cars.com the dealer just posted it. I saw it had 30k, and in my price range ($13,995).

Thanks guys.

My Credit Union said I had to get a 2008 or newer. Considering 2008 is the last year the 350's were made,.. well.. That's what I'm going after.

I had to up my budget to 17k. Found one 3.5 hours away, was 20,500... Managed to talk the sales manager down to 17k out the door including fee's (Since it's out of state, I'll be paying the 2% sales tax here.). Of course he said I took all the profit out of the car and he's not making a dime.. Hah, ya right.

They didn't buy a 2008 350Z for 17k from an auction, nor did they give someone 17k for a 2008 350Z on trade-in. I bet they got the car between 12.5-14k .. He's making some money.. Now had he sold it for 20,500 -- he'd be making a killing, as most used car dealerships do make.

Now I just have to make sure my 2006 Pontiac Solstice with 28k miles gets 9200-9400$ tomorrow from Carmax or Driversway. Can't believe I'm selling this immaculate Solstice for under 10k,.. but I have to pay it off. I love the Z's... so finally getting what I have wanted.

If anyone wants to buy a 2008 Pontiac Solstice with 28k miles, immaculate in every way with every option possible added from the factory for 10k.. Let me know, I'm selling it tomorrow (Thursday) regardless. I'm in B'ham, AL.

I was a little worried if I'd have headroom in the 350Z -- but from looking at posts the 350Z has a ton of headroom (I am only 6ft, but I have a 29" inseam.. so I'm ALL Torso..) -- But I see people who are 6'4, 6'5 and taller fit in it fine.. so I'm not worried about that.

There's a guy in Atlanta who has one I want, but he just won't respond. He's responded to email twice over 3 days, he wont' answer texts.. and hasn't responded all day. If he doesn't respond tomorrow morning (thurs) and gives me his cell number he's gonna miss out on me buying his car for full price. I want his car because the miles are good and he has had even the oil changes done at Nissan (it's that type of car).. Carfax backs ups all the services and oil changes. Though I guess he just doesn't really care to sell it ... but I'm rambling.

I found another one closer.. 45 mins away, but the guy painted all the emblems black (I could deal with that, and would probably put them back to stock).. blacked out the lights.. Could even deal with that).. But he lowered the car. I know many like that, but I like the stock ride height , and this thing is slammed to the ground, I don't want to be scraping everywhere I go.. otherwise his price is a grand less than the other car. It has exhaust as well.. Which always makes me a little curious if the person sort of ragged the car.

Bottom line you have to go with your gut, and my gut tells me the Atlanta car has been taken care of.. but I don't know if the guy will contact me. The other one is already a done deal at a dealership.. has 6k more miles, but 6k miles isn't going to change my mind.

My requirements were , -- 2008, Coupe, Manual trans, and 39k miles or less. It fits.

My step father is going to give me a ride to get it.. and he keeps asking me why don't I get one with 70-90k miles for 13-14k.. And I'm like, miles are everything! With a solid carfax, good look over of the car.. a 2008 with low 30k miles is as good as it gets for under 20k. In general, less miles = less wear on the engine/tranny/drivetrain (obviously if raced/ragged that's another story)..

Getting long.. sorry.

Do the 2008 350's have Bluetooth? Where you can use your phone to talk without holding it?

None of the model's have bluetooth. You'd have to get an aftermarket radio if you want that.

You pay sales tax where the car is registered.

Actually depending on the model and year of the 350z, some do come with bluetooth. Touring and Grand Touring Models have it. The microphone housing is located next to the passenger airbag light along with controls on the steering wheel.

Now is the time to buy as it's winter. The dealer should negotiate if they want a sale. But some are hard pressed and want go sell it in spring for more.
