First of all, it's not about age. ANY new driver who buys a high powered car has a higher than average chance of getting in to an accident. That is simply a fact. Experience only comes from time behind the wheel. New drivers, by definition, lack experience. (by experience I mean YEARS.)

As for speeding, that is also somewhat independant of age. Anybody who wants a high performance car and buys one is more likely to speed than someone who wants a minivan and buys one. Think about it. Why would you want a small car with limited cargo space if not for the performance? And if you DO want the performance then clearly you ARE someone who will be more tempted to speed.

You are basically asking us to believe that you want the fastest sportiest car you can afford, but you have no intention of pushing any limits. The replies that are bothering you simply reflect skepticism on this point.

I am sure you will dismiss what I have said as you have all the good advice from other memebers. But I felt compelled to dispell the notion that this advice was based on some sort of age discrimination alone.

Sure, younger drivers DO make more mistakes. But there are many other factors at work here to.

Yes, I agree with you. I think you do have your future planned out:

1. A girlfriend, at least for now, until she wants someone with more money available to be spent on her instead of Z payments and Z insurance.

2. No further education beyond what you got in High School, so you're probably stuck in a lower paying job with not much chance for improving yourself.

3. Working part-time and right at the wellfare limit, living at home, mooching off of Dad, looking for co-signers since you can't afford stuff yourself.

4. Not willing to work full time, but wanting the car of your dreams now.

Yep. Your future is all planned out. Your plans are for someone else to take care of you while you have fun (IMHO).

My advice is to get an older car whose payments and insurance you can afford. Work full time, even if you do not get any further education. Save your money until you're at least 25. Make a big downpayment on whatever makes sense by then. Buy a house so you can live on your own, get a 2-3 year old car, invest in a good marriage and family.

Just my own ideas. Best wishes for a successful future - whatever you decide is best.

College is definitely up to you, but I must say, it was a blast. It also helped me to change the way I think about things. I actually think a lot more now, imagine that. I will say that I have friends who never went to college and are now 21-23 yrs. old and some make upwards of $80k a year, some even over $100k (most of them are in sales). One time after hearing their salaries, I said something like, "Man, I should have done that!" And they all said that I had much more potential, and that they weren't happy and felt like they were at the end of the line for their careers. For what it's worth...

I know it wasn't meant for me, but I wanted to thank everyone for all the insurance lecturing. Seriously. Got me to check out my coverages and increase them a lot, without much more out of my pocket.

BTW - My original coverage wasn't near as puny as the ones the original poster put from Allstate. The "what if's" and advice are much appreciated by some of us youngins. So thanks!

With Full Coverage as well they qouted me at $1,165 every 6month's, i know that's still too high for most of you but hey it'll go down when i become 21 and oder...=P

This is what's on the coverage

Bodily injurey $10,000 Per person
Per accident $20,000
-------------------------------------
Property damage $10,000
-------------------------------------
Uninsure Motoris $10,000
$20,000 accident
--------------------------------
personal injurey $10,000
-------------------------------------
deductible @ $500

All comes out to be $1,165 every 6 months, $194 a month. That i believe is even cheaper BY my self then with my dad. I dunno why. But yearly i would be paying $2,330. I'm good to go, thanks for your advices. But i will continue to get the 350Z

Money is not a problem as long as you're living happy.
yep, thats sh*t coverage. as everyone on here has already stated. just to let you see things in a different way. i was involved in an accident last year where i spent 3 nights in the hospital. you wanna know how much it cost me JUST to stay in the hospital for one night, this isnt including the surguries, xrays, IV hookups, ambulance pick-up, post doctor visits, etc....just to sleep in a room in the hospital for one night cost $7,000. add another $2,800 for xrays and you're already at the limit of what the insurance will pay for. and guess what else, the insurance company is trying to f*ck me over and refuses to pay my bills (for reasons i wont get into right now, but alcohol or drugs is not a factor), but basically if you get in the car with someone you know has a speeding/wreckless driving record, they see it as someone who is intoxicated. so now my family is stuck trying to pay $40,000 worth of medical bills. you want to know who this insurance company is??? yep, you guessed it.....ALLSTATE, their job is too screw you up the a**hole. but this will soon be taken to court. anyway, enough of my rant.....i just get this cringy feeling when i hear or see the name Allstate. ive had two lawyer that i know tell me that them and State Farm will find any excuse possible when it comes time to coughing up serious money.

anyway, i say keep the accord, take out a personal loan from the bank for 5K and use the money to do a H22 swap or boost it. this will be a fun car plus you'll be establishing credit. then go back to school, you have a better chance in becoming succesful. and by the time you graduate most car dealerships have a graduates program where if you can show a proof of an upcoming job, the you are automatically approved for their highest credit tier which includes the best interest rates at that time. and besides, like everyone else said....college is a great time, nothing like high school. i've had some of the best nites of my life in college and met some of my best friends who i know will be life long friends.

Default Allstate

I have a couple of creepy allstate stories.

1) When I tried to insure my motorcycle I called my allstate agent. He quoted me like $1100 (nearly what I pay on my SUV!!!). I was so shocked I looked around. Another company (Progressive) quotes me around $300 a year.

So I called back my agent and ask him WTF!?!? He says "Oh, when allstate doesn't want to cover something they quote really high. If you agree to pay it they will cover you !!!!!! Jerks.

As payment I canceled my auto insurance through them and shopped around. Which leads to #2 on my allstate hit parade ....,

2) Allstate raised my rates every year despite a clean record. Just a little at a time. When I first joined allstate I shopped around and they were a good price. Within a few years I was paying too much. I switched to Prudential and prudential and nearly DOUBLED my coverage for LESS money.

My days of trusting Allstate are over.

Dont get a NEW bike, You will stay alive that way.

I wanted a sports car then decided to buy a bike instead. Get a used bike, preffereable 600 or LESS. Unlike a car bikes require SKILL and a 18 y/o with a brand new 130HP bike will plow right into the back of a bigrig.

Also if you get a bike take the safety class that your local highway patrol offers. Or save the $5k, get a job, live off your parents for a year or two then when you have $10K-15K (like me) get it. Remember more money down more in your pocket later.

I said that same thing when I got my motorcycle. But then the first day not 3 hours later my ex ran over the back of me. and pinned my bike underneath my car.

haha

Remember you may be safe but that dosent mean everyone else is and i paid for the damages myself.

My final $0.02 buy a used 350z if its that bad. Like me, I am scouring the dealers in my area looking for 350z's that were eaither a dealer demo, repo, or they just got rid of it for some reason. You can save yourself at least 20% of the value of a new car just in that.

ok well, i went to the dealers today...

looked around and all, the sales person was an idiot of course, but i knew him because he eats at my dad's restaraunt. But anyhow we chat and all, all he knew was the hp of the car and that was it. He was calling prices out the *** for Enthusiast.

Just guess on how much they want a Enthusiast for?...

no not $29,000...no not $31,000....no not 34,000....they wanted freaking $37,000 for that F^%king car. WTF. He was like ..

"yeah u see the MRSP price on the sticker? sayin $30,000 in change? well that car has to be delivered which cost 500 bucks. Plus the environmental stuff and thing and that and that... "

and i'm like...right i have all the information from http://edmunds.com about how much i should be paying and all infront of me. and he stills tries to sell the car to me for that 37,000 amount.

but ya we just BS'd alot and he took me for a Test drive, Performance 6spd...he took it out to a empty parking lot and let me drive the rest. It was nice, loved the power the Z was putting out. That was the second time i've driven a Z. So i was kinda jumpy.

After, we went back and we got a Touring automatic. Test drove it as well, it was cool shifting the triptronic and all. We got back and talked about the price AGAIN, and he said the lowest he'll go is 35,000...i just said i have to go back to work. We'll talk some other time, I just left the place.

Now i know how the Z is after test driving the car. It would of been a BAD purchase if i would of bought the Z, not because of the price, but because of the ride quality, it was HARD on bumpy roads. The interior on the performance and touring wasn't as i expected to be. the dash board was so called "cheap"? ...But as a sports car...i dont think its all that ... the Z...just another nissan product. Whats worth the $20,000 is the engine/drivetrain.

Don't take it personally, but i guess i got used to the Lexus's interior and the Accords.

I'm looking into the M3's probably next year or so. Going to save abit more. I took some of your advices and not buy a Z. Happy?

Ha ha ha... whatever... Problem is you can't afford the car so you start making excuses. It's a sports car not a sedan. Hope you pumped yourself up because the truth is this... you made yourself look like an idiot.

Bet your girlfriend likes the Z...

So i'll be getting puttin the $2,000 on the down payment. I know what you're thinking, yes i should try to sell the car my self but nah...whatever.
$9K for a trade-in. That is kinda high for a dealer giving you that much. Is it a fully loaded Honda Accord LX 4Dr with all options?

Trade-in is about $6900 if you have a 4 cyclinder LX version.

If they are giving you $9K I would go for it. You can't even sell it private party for that much, unless its fully loaded with every available option.

I just finished reading your silly post, thanks for wasting my time.

DO YOU know why the dealer was going to give you $9K for your 98LX 4 cyl Accord 4 Door?

Take one guess.

Its because they were trying to sell you a $29K car for $37K.

GL at the BMW dealership, I hope they offer you $12K for your Lexus looking interior Accord and then sell you an M3 hardtop coupe for $60K.

GL! Not!!!

I'll sell you a Nissan 3.5L engine and drivetrain for $20K. Hell make it $18K and I'll even include free shipping.

You guys are being kind of rough with No Dough Joe . I had the same kind of experience with the Porsche dealer. I test drove a Carrera GT. It was $475,000. They wanted $540 for the shipping too and wouldn't budge! I said no way I'm paying a penny over $475,000 for this car. And to top it off, it had this shinny stuff in the interior. He called it carbon fiber. Now I'm not from the backwoods. I know that coal is made of carbon. Hell, the interior was just coal fiber! I asked the salesman if he knew where I could get some plastic that looked like wood to cover up the coal, like No Dough Joe's Accord has. So we took it for a test drive. Man was it bumpy. And those brakes - I thought that my eyeballs were going to be sucked out. So I left and didn't buy the car. Really, who wants to ride around in a bumpy car with no eyeballs? Anyway I'm going to save my money for a year or so and buy the New Jersey Nets.

What? You're fretting over a $30K loan and now are contemplating ~$60K loan for the M3??

And you think that we didn't want you to get the Z? What's this **** about "happy?" (that you're not getting the Z). Geez, virtually everyone on this board tried to give you practical advice on financial matters that you would have no idea about (except through hard knock lessons, which everyone here was trying to spare you). And you interpret the 'experienced' advice (that you asked for) as some type of insinuation that we on this board are 'hating' on you for getting a Z or something?
