Unhappy HELP!!! Anyone with Clay experience...

Well, this is the first time I've clayed a car, and I'm using the Meguiar's brand. I didn't use quite enough lubricant so now I've got some clay that is sticking to the car!!! see pic.

No matter what I've tried I can't get the clay off, I've tried Dawn, vinegar solution, Zaino Z6. The clay only gets spread around more and it looks worse!

Would appreciate any advice from any of the detailing experts... thanks!!

I'm not sure what kind of clay you are using but the kind I used if much firmer and even without lube it couldn't do that. It is kind of like silly putty consistancy. It was the Zaino putty.

Anyway, I'm not sure what you do here. I'd wait for Brad to come on here and see your post. You may want to PM him.

You may want to repost this in the Detail Shop section also.

It's not really like silly putty, more like taffy, it has a very sticky surface without the lube. Even with the lube it still leaves these gross streaks in the paint. VERY frustrating. I've PM'd Brad, hopefully he can help. I can say to everyone on this site, STAY AWAY FROM MEGUIAR'S CLAY! I'm going to call them up tomorrow and give them an ear-full....

Whew! It does come off, you have to wait for the clay to dry, and then it's just old-fashioned elbow grease, but STILL! It shouldn't be this hard... I'm still going to call Mequiar's and ask them what the hell is up with this product.

I've heard nothing but bad about the Mequiars clay.

The Zaino clay bar is MUCH better. Remember to do the claying on a cool surface with PLENTY of lubricant.

UPDATE: I thought I had removed all the clay, but I can now see a thin white film from certain angles in the spots where the clay was. I called up Meguiar's and they said I had to go buy a special paint treatment to get the film off. Talk about total BULL$(&*!

DO NOT USE THIS STUFF.

i have 2 recommendations for clay, Mothers, and a type used by ziebart (i used to work there the stuff was awesome) i'm not sure who made it but it is possibly 3m however i've never heard of 3m making clay... its a professional quality product however and as usually is w/ professional level products, you get better results, but if you dont know what your doing you can have severe consequences,,, i always kep the car wet while working on it, sometimes even with a few suds to help keep the water on it... (not soapy, but w/ few suds)

Maybe the Zaino bar will fix it?

I've used Pinnacle's clay bar and never had it come apart like that before. Before getting that paint treatment stuff you might want to try a paint cleanser first.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

I have had great results w/ Mothers' Clay. When I talked to one of the Zaino bros. on the phone they recommended Mother's and a few others as quality clay bars. You can get it at Walmart for $10. The regional detail shop I bought Zaino from also recommended Mother's as well as a few other companies.
