Default The "How to maintain a black car" thread!!!

We all know that black is awesome, but a ***** to maintain. My brother in law wrote some instructions on how to maintain a black car. He used these on his black supra and it looked great!!

Disclaimer: This is just one method, I'm sure others have other ideas...

Prep WORK
Wash micro fiber towels before using them. It is recommended that you first wash your new micro fiber towels to wash away all of the loose micro filaments from the towel. Wash with warm water with any mild laundry detergent. Preferably a liquid type. Tumble dry at low temperature or air dry or line dry for best results. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or iron. Always wash your micro fiber towels separately from other types of fabrics.

Make a spray bottle for clay lubricant. (1 cap of z7 with 16 ounces of distilled water) Label it "Zaino Clay Lubricant"
Make a spray bottle. Need distilled water and isopro.. alcohol. 50/50 mix in a spray bottle. Label it "50/50 Alcohol/Distilled Water"
Make a spray bottle for plain distilled water. Label it "Distilled Water"

Wash with z7, use mr clean auto dry system to do final rinse, wipe with big blue II towel (drag across car) let the remaing water air dry

STAGE 2 CLAYBAR
Clay the car down spray a water-based lubricant (1 cap of z7 with 16 ounces of distilled water) Make sure this is labeled. Rub back and forth with medium pressure. Fold it like a book and make sure the exposed side has never been used. Wipe residue with blue microfiber buffing cloth.

STAGE 3 WASH
Wash car again with z7 to remove clay residue. Use mr clean auto dry system to do final rinse, wipe with big blue II towel (pat dry do not drag across) let the remaing water air dry

STAGE 4 MENZERNA INTENSIVE POLISH

Work on areas of about 2 square feet. Apply two, 8 inch lines of polish on the paint. Mist the yellow foam compounding pad with water and, with machine off, spread polish over the surface. Set the Porter Cable's speed control between 3-1/2 and 4. Place the pad on the paint and turn the polisher on. Work over the area in a figure-8 pattern until almost dry. Mist the surface with a 50/50 solution of alcohol and water. Wipe off residues and inspect the surface. If defects and swirls are still present, continue compounding. If the surface is swirl free, wipe off any remaining residues with a damp blue microfiber buffing cloth. Continue polishing in 2 square foot sections until vehicle is done.

CLEANING PAD
Clean-up - After compounding, wash all pads in a bucket of soapy water, rinse and let air dry.

STAGE 5 MENZERNA FINAL POLISH II

Procedure - Work on areas of about 2 square feet. Apply two, 8 inch lines of polish on the paint. Mist a White Foam Polishing Pad with water and, with machine off, spread polish over the surface. Set the Porter Cable's speed control between 3-1/2 and 4. Place the pad on the paint and turn the polisher on. Work over the area in a figure-8 pattern until almost dry. Wipe off polishing residues with a damp blue microfiber buffing cloth. Continue polishing in 2 square foot sections until vehicle is done.
Clean-up - After compounding, wash all pads in a bucket of soapy water, rinse and let air dry.

STAGE 6 ZAINO WITH PORTER CABLE AND GREY FINISHING PAD 3 coats day 1 on day 2 do 2 more. Total of 5 coats.
http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/...ory_Code=Zaino
Lightly mist the pad with Z6 (one or two light shots) before starting to buff. Apply the Z2 or Z5 in a thin plus sign across the pad. Buff with the speed dial set between 3.5 and 4.5. Apply more Z2 or Z5 to the pad when you see it's no longer applying a uniform film. After buffing the entire car, use a yellow Buffing Towel to remove the remaining polish film. Repeat as desired (up to four coats in a single day!).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 Each ZFX(tm) kit comes with a 2ml vial of accelerator mix and several 2 ounce mixing bottles. A single ZFX(tm) kit provides enough mix to accommodate 16-20 ounces of Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2, Z-3 or Z-5).

2 Pour one to two ounces of Show Car Polish into a 2 ounce mixing bottle. For each ounce of polish, add 4-5 drops of ZFX(tm) (no more than 10 drops for two full ounces), screw the cap back on, and shake vigorously for 60 to 90 seconds.

3 While you get your towels and applicators ready, allow the ZFX(tm) enabled Zaino Show Car Polish to sit for five minutes so the ZFX(tm) can begin activating the polish. Give the applicator bottle a final shake for 10 seconds before using.

4 Apply Zaino Show Car Polish enabled with ZFX(tm) with a 100% cotton cloth applicator. Use the polish sparingly. A small amount goes a long way, and you will be applying multiple coats.

5 Squirt a dime size dab of polish on your applicator and rub it into your paint using circular hand motions. Then, go over the same area using a straight back and forth motion on top panels and an up and down motion on side panels. Allow the polish to haze over for 20 to 30 minutes.

6 Buff off the Show Car Polish residue with a high quality, 100% made in the USA cotton towel.
7 After buffing, spray the car with a light mist of Z-6(tm) Gloss Enhancer detailing spray. Z-6(tm) will help buff away any remaining residue and enhances the brightness of the finish. Using Z-6(tm), the next coat of Zaino Show Car Polish will apply even easier.

8. You're now ready to apply your next coat of Zaino Show Car Polish enabled with ZFX(tm). There's no need to wait. Simply repeat steps 4-7 above one more time. Apply no more than three coats of ZFX(tm) in a 24 hour period. For optimum results, use ZFX(tm) within 6 hours of mixing. Use a fresh cotton buffing towel for removal of each coat.

When you are finished polishing, wash the mixing bottle inside and out with a heavy concentration of liquid dishwashing detergent and thoroughly rinse. The ZFX(tm) mixing bottles cannot be reused if the polish remains in the bottle for more than 12 hours. After 12 hours, it is not possible to remove the ZFX(tm) accelerator from the mixing bottles. Throw the mixing bottle and any unused polish contents away after 12 hours.

ZFX(tm) Flash Cure Accelerator Additive should be used with Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2 or Z-5, Z-3 for non clear coated) twice a year on an everyday car and once a year on a show car. Also, please reapply ZFX(tm) Flash Cure Accelerator Additive after every ten coats of Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2 or Z-5, Z-3 for non clear coated). ZFX(tm) Flash Cure Accelerator Additive will never remove Zaino. Also the NEW ZFX(tm) Flash Cure Accelerator Additive is an incredible product and could be used as often as you like... it's up to you. It will tighten up and strengthen the polish system and increase the gloss.

STAGE 7 S100 CARNUBA WAX
Apply wax to hand polishing black pad with a putty knife or something similar. Work the wax into the pad before you start so it's pretty well "saturated" with it. Then squeeze out as much as you can (I use the same tool I used to put it ON the pad). You generally don't need much, but you want to have the pad as evenly "waxed" as possible. Make sure there is not to much. You don't want to waste a lot of this.
