Is Z-2 really necessary if you have Z-5?

Default Is Z-2 really necessary if you have Z-5?

I just got my brand new SB touring...

The paint is in pretty good condition, although it seems that it was parked outside for a significant amount of time. It definitely has some "dealer swirlies".

I am getting Zaino ASAP and I will be doing the following:

Wash with dawn
Claybar with dilute Z-7 wash as lube
Wash with Z-7
Z-5 with ZFX
Z-6

after this, I am confused about one thing:

With the constant battle over swirls and hairline scratches on black, is it really necessary to EVER use Z-2? Or should I just start with Z-5 and stick with it?

In other words, does Z-2 make a big difference in appearance over Z-5 if there are no longer any swirl marks? It seems like Z-5 should be safe to use forever (especially on black).

One last question - is Z-6 good to use on windows, wheels, and headlights?

Thanks for the help of you Zaino-masters.

Z-5 is designed to hide swirls whereas Z-2 gives you the best shine. You could probably stick with Z-5 at the expense of a small level of appearance and shine.

Yes, you can use Z-6 on windows, wheels & headlights.

I've used a couple of layers of Z-5 followed by a couple of Z-2. I then repeat with one layer of each. I use Z-6 and now Z-8 for cleaning between cycles. The ZXF additive will allow you to get more layers done quicker.

The quality of your towels is as important as the polish.

I would still get the Z-2. It is more "optically pure" (as Sal says) than the Z-5. Don't get me wrong, Z-5 still shines very nicely. But I would still only use it for swirls.

Besides, Zaino is coming out with an even more powerful Swirl filler soon. Who know, maybe Z-5 will become obsolete?

Doc,

Isn't the new product more of a swirl remover than a filler? Based on the little info out there, I saw it as a 3-M SMR replacement.

The new Zaino Paint cleanser and swirl mark remover contains an ever reducing abrasive that will remove whatever paint protector or shiner that is currently on the surface even if it is Z-2 or z-5. The new product is not a filler at all and does not contain filler oils. You will have to use either Z-5 or Z-2 on the surface after you use the new Zaino paint cleanser product. The new product will be a swirl remover if used by a orbital and foam pads and be only a paint cleanser if used by hand is what Sal has told me. I have my sample and have already used it with my Porter cable and yellow foam pad.

Z-2 has higher optics than Z-5 (this might change when Z-5 Pro comes out) , but both protect the paint and have the same durability, so if you are happy with the look of your car with Z-5 you do not have to use Z-2. As a matter of fact, if you use Z-5 and then top it with Z-8 Spray Seal then your optics and shine would probably be maxed out........

Thanks for the advice... I don't have a garage so keeping the car immaculate is not going to be possible. I'm most interested in keeping it reasonably shiny all week long and then maybe touching up with Z6. I think I'll try Z5 first and if I feel it's necessary I'll go for the Z2.

I too am still a bit confused over the use of Z-5.

The website says:
"For maximum gloss, follow Z-5™ Show Car Polish with one or more coats of Z-2™ Show Car Polish. Z-2 will provide an even higher gloss finish than Z-5. Always use Z-6 Gloss Enhancer Spray between each and every coat of Z-5 and Z-2."

I don't see anyone writing that Z-6 is absolutely necessary between coats.

Should I be using Z-6 between coats of Z-5?

So far, I have done 1 coat of Z-1 and 2 of Z-5. Now I am wondering if I should have been using Z-6 also?

You don't have to but I think it works best if you use the Z-6 (or now the Z-8) between each layer.

Kevin: What is your impression of the new product? How did it do with the swirls?
