I parked my moms maxima under a pine tree while she went to India for 3 weeks. I checked on it yesterday it has about... 40-50 sap spots that are dried up. HOW DO I TAKE IT OUT!??! I've tried 2 sap removers... one gel-water based and one paste- petroleum based. Petroleum was better but i feel like it can eat away at the clear coat if i put too many layers on. Some of the spots are so dried up I can't take it off w/ 3-4 coats of the petroleum one. Anyone know what to do?

I've used the petro based products before with luck. If the sap has had time to bake in the sun that can't be good.

The one I use is Turtle Was Bug, Tar, and Tree Sap remover.

The best thing I've found to use is Rain-X window stuff. A friend of mine traded his Eclipse for my Xterra for the weekend and I parked it under a pine tree. It only got a couple spots of sap on it but the Rain-X took it right out and left the clear coat alone. I did wax it afterwards because I used a normal bath towel to apply it. I think the bath towel did the most damage. Good luck, it worked really well for me.

 

im gonna try less abrassive first. Ill try 50-50 alcohol water mix, then vinigar then maybe rain X. hope it works.

try some dishwashing liquid....it works wonders. There was this one time something dripped onto my car...used everything the auto shop had to offer, no car wash solution could take it out, nothing. Then i used some palmolive..and it came out in no time. Give it a shot

 

It will also strip wax and leave a dull finish, so if you use dishwashing liquid, be prepared to wax or Zaino the car.

 

That's ultimately what you will have to do to get rid of the sap, but palmolive won't strip the clear coat so you should spot wash, then wax again if you want.

 

Well i dried alcohol. Though it removed most of the sap, an outline of where it REALLY dried on still remains, and also, since it only disolves the sap rather then breaking it down then carrying it away, a thin sheeth of sap remains wherever i spot cleaned w/ alcohol. I have to use bug and tar remover (which will take off thin sheeths) and then maybe ill use palmaloive to remove all the wax so i can start from scratch. One of my practice runs really scratched the paint up bad so i have to buff it out anyway... Ugh. I dont have a before pic.well of the whole car but there is part of th ecar i havn't done. Ill take a pic and try some more. BTW, car is dark grey metallic..kinda liek Smoke for Altimas.

 

Whats Mineral spirits and denatured alcohol? Can somebody explain that to me pls?
