Default Wheel Cleaner Warning

Hey U guys
Yesterday I experienced something I just have to share with you. It started when I decided to clean my wheels with something more then soapy water I used to use,
I went to buy a wheel cleaner and unluckily for me I got
Turtle Wax T426 Platinum Series Wheel Cleaner 26.25 oz.
I sprayed one of the wheels and once I did it white spots appeared all over the lip.
Spots are irremovable right now. Every time I’m looking at the wheel I’m disgusted.
Guys… don’t let it happen to you.

Probably took the clear coat off. Did it say safe for all wheels!

Sorry!

Wow that sucks dude. I know from experience also on my GT'7's. I used a cleaner that contained a form of acid and it stained them pretty bad. Instead of paying a shop lots of loot to repair them, I am doing them on my own and have complete 2 of the 4 with repolishing them.

I took each wheel apart (GT7's are 2 piece), sanded them down with 300, 450, 600 grit sandpaper. Then used my drill and some polishing attachments that I bought along with White Rouge polishing compound. They look pretty damn good.

Ouch, that sucks! I've always been wary of wheel cleaners, I'll stick to soap and water.

I used a small test strip on my Volk GT-AV's and it burned through the clear coat. It said safe for all wheels and now I have a dull spot that just makes me so mad. I can't remember the name of the stuff that I used but I was told after the fact that soap water then windex was the best and that has worked great.

Sorry to hear about that, at least you didn't go around and spray all of them first like a friend of mine did.

I would write a letter (make a photocopy too) including pictures of the damage and a photocopy of the receipt for your rims.

It's like $550-600 for that wheel, so hopefully they will just cut you a check to replace it. It's not all that much money when it's all said and done.

However I can't see where hiring a lawyer would be worth your time or money for one rim. Plus it is not damaged structurally, only cosmetically. So either you get lucky and they give you some money, or you just learn your lesson and move on, possibly trying to repair it.

Of course, if the bottle says "not for use on clearcoated wheels" or something to that effect, then you're screwed.

In the future, if you want something that works well for me and is really mild on the wheels, try Zymol wheel cleaner. It isn't chea[p, but it works so well, you only need the little horsehair brush to complete the clean (like a paintbrush )

No offense to jcandas, but from your sig I gather that you have stock rims, which may be okay to use wheel cleaner.

VOLK (OR OTHER CLEARCOATED) RIMS = DO NOT USE WHEEL CLEANER.

Nah, he's probably just pissed that Americans are complaining about gas prices when we actually have it cheaper-to-the-consumer (including all taxes and tarriffs etc) than most of the world...

My lip's aren't "chrome" but they are high polished like most Volk rims out there. Are you sure yours are chrome?
