I try tp keep theunderside of my hood pretty clean, with spme sopy watter, a couple of rags, and a toothbrush, but I was wonering what everyone else uses. I know these cars are ne, but I wouldn't let it get out of hand. I just ordered Griot's garageengine detailing kit. Anything anyone else uses?

I agree with not letting it get out hand, I also use Black Opal a gloss dressing to keep the black plastic and tubing shinny as well as treats it to keep from drying out.

 

Simple Green does wonders. I was told to never steam clean my engine(for my Zs at least) and my mechanic uses Simple Green. That was a few years back. Since then Simple Green has now released an automotive version - I don't think there's anything different about it. Just spray and water off. You can brush if necessary.

 

Ok, let me start out. Dont ever use Simple Green on your car, even in the engine. Trust me. They've gotten alot of buisness from people thinking it safe so they use it on their car, when in reality its pretty harsh stuff. I use Eiman Fabrik Degreaser when necsesary, but mostly just use suds and water as general matainence.

Westpack, I probably wouldn't use BO in the engine compartment, as it may block the O2 sensors over time. Use a water based dressing such as Zaino Z-16, 303, Meguiars #40, Vinlylex ect.

Remember as a cautious measure, cover the intake and exposes electrical wires with plastic bags. Again, the latter isnt ver nescesary, but its something good to practice.

Would you recommend the Eiman Fabrik for cleaning grease and brake dust off painted calipers? I want them clean, but don't want the paint compromised (painted with brake caliper paint good to 900 degrees).

Would the Eiman Fabrik High Intensity be better for this usage?

 

Just use the Hi-Intensity, as your using it on the wheels/tires anyway. Wet, mist with cleaner, agitate, rinse.

 

Brad4rdHay: I know your a real car nut but I'm surprised you mentioned Hi-Intensity. Eimann Fabrik came out with Engine Degreaser for a reason. Hi-Intensity is a great product and can be used however it will fade any plastic componets where Engine degreaser will not. My suggestion would to use the Engine Degreaser for cleaning purposes only. As far as dressing goes I like the new Meguiar's Detailer product Engine Kote. Just spray down the engine and let it dry to a high non greasy finish i.e. like 303. I found it on CMA's website. Truely a great product.

 

No no, he asked if he should buy the Engine Degreaser to use on his calipers. I told him to just spray them with Hi-Int' as hes working with it there anyway. Yes, I recomend you use their engine degreaser when necsesary.

Well, I broke my Camara, BUT it did wort very well, the gloss isn't my favorite, I might just usemy meguires #40. The brushes works GREAT, except they are not long enough. I actually used an old pushrod, with a peice of an old cotten towel tie wrapped to it for the deep down areas. Otherwise, the actual cleaner works REALLY well. If anyone is worried about sensors, or wires, this is a good time to get to know your engine. I discontected all of them, and wrapped the exposed part with duct tape, so I could work on each one individually. Before you do this though, go to a car parts store, yo can buy little number stickers to match up the disconnected wires when yur done. I still don't recomend spraying it down with water, ever, simply too risky , take your time. Maybe you guys could post some pics...if ya get e chance. Also, Brady, would it be ok to use a polymer, or wax underneath the hood on the painted areas?

 

What about meguires cold class protectant wipes?
