Default Can you use tireshine on other rubber?

I know its a really dumb question, but can you use tireshine on the rubber around the engine? and on some of the hoses? Mine look like crap, or do you need a special engine dressup thing?

Flame on! but people do answer the question too =)

I like Mothers Back-to-Black. Apply to a damp cloth, then wipe. Engine above has 37,000 miles.

The thing is, tire shine has oils that breakdown the rubber slowly mike. The rubber on tires is a lot harder than the rubber in the engine bay, so itll chunk off slower. I wouldn't do it.

Good question. I use Autoglym products. They have a "Vinyl & Rubber Care" which does what your trying to do and their "Instant Tyre Dressing" is specifically for stained and weathered tires. Different ingredients for different purpose? I wouldn't try it without checking other product lines (i.e. Meguires).

This is how I learned it......the only other part(other than tires) that I put tire shine on is my front air dam deflector(small rubber strip under the front bumper).

I use Meguire's NXT interior dressing on all the under-hood plastic and rubber. It restores the black, has a nice "soft" shine, and seems to hold up well between detailings. I agree w/ previous posts about tire dressing: wrong product for the job.

thanks! i didint plan on doing it without getting people's opinions

Also! Are you guys saying tireshine is bad for your wheels? If it breaks down rubber slowly, then i dont want that crap on my tires =P When i got the car the dealer put some black goo on the tires to make then shiny, still cant wash that crap off. Any products you put on your wheels that acutally dont damage the rubber?

Someone may be able to better explain, but in order for a product like tire shine to last, it must "break down" some of the structure of the tire to adhere....tires have a lot more density, and are exposed to other sources of wear(abrasion/weather/UV) that make loss due to tire shine product of minimal concern.......

Hoses under the hood.....well, you be the judge.

I use a Meguires product on my tires that I think is silicone based....lasts a long time, but it lasts due to the concept described above....

I would only used something like 303 Aerospace Protectant on the other rubber parts. Tire shine is just that - something to make tires shiny. 303 will give rubber that nice new glossy look, it will help keep it soft and pliable and will protect it from the sun's damaging rays.
