Default best car wax to use

I hear everyone's using Zaino but I can never find it at any store. Why Zaino? what makes it so special? I talked to a detailer and he told me to avoid anything that's Carnuba because it has a low melting point. On a hot sunny day the wax will just melt off your finish. I heard Meguires synthetic polymers are good because they last longer. I was at Walmart the other day and found this one called NuFinish in an orange bottle. They claim to have a car wax that'll last a yr long. My car is Alloysiver so it need not to have a deep gloss finish. I'm looking for a wax that provides the best, longest lasting protection... not a polish.

Zaino is only sold through distributors or directly from them:
http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Zaino is a synthetic polymer polish, not a wax (carnuaba) so melting won't be a problem.

While Zaino last a long time, nothing will last a year, unless of course you never take your car outside the garage. That's marketing BS for ya'.

I used Nufinish years ago. Meh.

Zaino lasts signficantly longer than Meguiars NXT for me (that's Meguair's polymer polish).

Meguires Gold Class is a good Poly Wax, but does not have the shine that Carnuba does. It should last 4-6 Months in your conditions.

I wish the myth that Zaino takes a long time would die. If you want optimal results, it requires all of the steps and TLC. If you want very good results that will be better than anything you can buy at Wal-Mart and last 3x as long, you can just get Z5, wash the car, put on a coat, and wipe it off. Probably 20-30 minutes tops for waxing and wiping off, not counting curing time (maybe 30 minutes in the summer).

I can put a coat of Zaino on once I got my base prep work done in about 30 minutes total if you use ZFX, but it isn't necessary if you just want to allow for the curing.

People get intimidated away from an excellent product for no logical reason.

The shine is pretty close. The application and removal is probably 20% easier. Zaino lasts at least 2x longer for me, probably more.

NXT isn't a bad product if you need to run to Wal-Mart and buy something. It's probably your best bet in that situation. However, it isn't as good as Zaino.

I gave my Z it's first wax treatment over the weekend, NXT. The product was very easy to apply by hand and the results speak for it self!

Meguiar's #20 polymer sealant is also a good choice if you can find it in stores, Napa usually carries it, and it last longer than NXT, probably almost as long as Zaino if you need something OTC.

Go with Autoglym "Ultra Deep Shine" and "Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner". Easy to apply and remove, plus does wonders on a car with swirls

there was a thread posted by someone about 2 weeks ago in which they had washed/waxed half the car with zaino products, and the other half with NXT.

The photos from a distance looked idential...up close, the zaino side's swirl marks were a lot more noticable than the NXT side.

^^

I don't completely agree, it's difficult too assess the swirls on those pictures and then tell which product is the best. Zaino and NXT gave similar results, although through experience Zaino is easier to put on/off and lasts longer...

I have yet to see a photo that captures what my eye can see in person, so until that happens I remain skeptical of any posted photo comparisons of one product vs. another.

As to the OPs original question "best car wax to use", there is no simple answer. It's subjective and biased by each individual's taste, goals and commitment. Read all about the various products, find out what works in the localle that you live in, decide if you want your car to look good at 20', 10', 5', 1'. Decide how much time and effort you are willing to invest to get the desired result.

As Manishboy pointed out, there is a myth of how long Zaino takes. If you don't do the preparation steps no matter which product you use (even Turtle Wax), then you're putting product over a imperfect surface and you will ultimately wind up with imperfect results.

I have a serious problem with my Z. I never used to wax, and its now three years old and the paint is really dull. I gave it a $70 treatment that removed stains, asphalt and some marks but the finish is unglossy.

It needs a true polishing, something like 3M fine compound, swirl mark remover, etc.; waxes and polishes like Zaino won't really help. There is probably oxidation on the paint surface and that needs to be removed. The only way to do it is with an abrasive polish. Find a good detailer or body shop and pay them to restore the surface.

What kind of $70 treatment did you do to it?

I use NXT and love it..I wax the car more than necessary anyway. So I never notice how long it last. It always looks good. Stay away from the NXT spray wax..it sucks. Too hard to take off.
