First, thanks to the many discussion threads on this forum and lots of great information from members like Brad4rdhay and Dr. Bonz. I compared a lot of information about Zaino vs. Blackfire and decided on Blackfire. Doc - don't think of me as turning to the dark side...just think of me as a future Zaino convert if that helps.

For medium colored car like Silverstone, it didn't look like I'd really notice the difference between Zaino and Blackfire and I also considered the 2-step Blackfire process which appealed to me a little more. Although I'm not sure why, because after working on the car yesterday for six hours I still can't stand up straight (you never mentioned how long that part lasts).

I got the Cable Porter 7424 Dual Action Polisher and lots of stuff from Proper Auto Care and some from Gnott's Garage. I washed & dried with Dawn, then clayed the car using the Pinnacle Poly Clay kit and washed & dried with Dawn again. The California Water Blade worked great at getting excess water off before drying.

I then put on a coat of Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish using the orbital polisher and hand buffed it off. Next I applied one coat of Blackfire All Finish Paint Protection (poly sealer) using the orbital polisher and hand buffed it off. Then, I applied a 2nd coat of the All Finish Paint Protection in a similar manner.

I didn't have to wait long between polish & sealer or between the 1st & 2nd coats of the All Finish Paint Protection, just the time it takes the first coat to dry (a couple of minutes) and then buff it off. The instructions indicated the 2nd coat of the paint protection would give it a wetter look, and that seemed to be true.

In general the instructions that came from Proper Auto Care with the polisher and with the Blackfire kits were great.

One final note, I still have a Red 1990 300ZX and the super-polymers like Blackfire are exceptional on dark colored cars. On my Silverstone it came out great, but it's not the same exceptional reflection you get on darker cars. It’s also hard to take a picture of the finish on medium to light colored cars and be able to capture the true effect. Without exception, I’m very pleased with the outcome.

I converted my father to Blackfire - I should take some pics of his GS... looks great. I also helped to convert a friend of mine with a Black GS400 to Blackfire. Now I need to find an orbital polisher......

Oh, and it says to wait about 24 hours between All-Finish PP coats

 

yeah i waited 24hrs before i added the second coat of the All Paint Protection. Might add a 3rd and final coat this week before the rains come. Blackfire really makes the surface of the car super dooper slippery. I used Meguiars before and it was never this slippery and reflective. Also, its only a 2-step process (excluding washing) and buffs off so easily its not funny

I didn't find anything in the printed Blackfire User Guide or on the bottle that says wait 24 hours between coats. In the Q&A section of the printed User Guide there are these two paragraphs:

"Q. Can I apply multiple coats of Blackfire Paint Protectant? Yes, but don't skip the initial polishing step. After the first application of protectant, you can repeat with many applications, as you desire, as often as you desire. The finish will get deeper and richer with each application but this is most noticeable on black, red and dark color vehicles."

and,

"Q. How long should I wait between products and between coats? Blackfire products start bonding immediately upon application. The only wait time required is the time it takes for the haze to dry so it can be buffed off. If you want to experiment with applying multiple coats of product, use Blackfire All Finish paint Protection. Two coats of Paint Protection will achieve a "wetter" gloss than two coats of Enhancing Polish."

Regarding the tire treatment ... I hear ya...I'm waiting on another delivery from Proper Auto Care with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Wow, you made me jealous. I have a black Z and looking at yours makes want to trade! Blackfire is awesome! Have you washed it yet since the first application? It is supposed to get even slicker.
