Geeze. By the time you get this done, it rains or it's time to trade it in, or you drop dead from an embolism caused by excess buffing.

It does look nice but I have a feeling the pics don't do it real justice.

Awesome, you just saved me $175. I was going to pay a professional $175 to get rid of my slight scratches/swirls. Now I am going out and buying the orbital for $99 at Lowes and the rest, here.

3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound
3M Finesse It II
3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009

and this,

and this,

My question is when you apply, do you apply the polish or swirl remover to the pad or the painted surface and if so how much? I have seen where people slosh the crap around it it goes everywhere. Any tips on applying? And do you press lightly or heavy to the polisher?

I was thinking of polishing my wifes car first and use her's as a practice car, hehe!

Don't use Simple Green in your engine bay, it eats aluminum.

I had Meguiars Gold Class that you have, IT simply does not last as long and does not hold up to the elements. I switched to Zaino as well.

From here you can take one of two different paths, Zaino or Meguiars. Both are excellent products and will yield amazing results, but I have found that Zaino polishes are optically superior to Meguiars. The major difference is longevity. The Zaino finish lasts longer than Meguiars, is easier to maintain, and isn’t greasy. The benefit of Meguiars, though, is price. Zaino polishes cost $12.99-$16.99 per 8oz. bottle while Meguiars #7 polish is $8.99 per 16oz. bottle. So you can obviously see the added expense. But, if you are after optimum results and price isn’t as much of an object, Zaino is the way to go. I will still, however, include Meguiars application instructions immediately under the Zaino instructions.
Very nice write up. As someone who is also "****" about their car, I can certainly understand where he is coming from. No need to criticize him.

Finally, the "cost" issue concerning Zaino nd Meguiars is moot. The same amount of Zaino will last you FAR longer than the same amount of ANY other product. Zaino is the most durable product on the market and this will by far compensate for it's slightly higher price.

The only reason I havent tried Zaino is that its a liquid wax. Call me stupid, but Im a slob with liquid wax.

If it came in a paste, Id try it.

Ed, you have to admit, my car looks nice.

Gawd, paste is so hard to get off. Zaino is very to easy to apply and no hard buffing. It comes off very easily.

Hey folks real quick question. I am going to get my random orbital at Lowes today. I know what pad to get and what supplies but I don;t know what order. I know to strip the car with dawn and claybar and re-wash but what is the very first step.

Heres what I have, this is the directions I got from Kevin Overall:

3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound= Orange Pad

3M Finesse It II= Yellow pad

3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009= white pad

(Which 3M do I apply first, I am assuming the cut rubbing coumpound, finesse II, then Swirl remover? Why the rubbing compound)
Apply the 3M to the pad and before turning the buffer on, smear the 3M onto the surface and while resting the pad against the paint, turn the buffer on, keep it moving in a figure 8 until the polish breaks down from a paste to an oil, this is easy to see. Turn the buffer up to about setting 5. Remember to turn the buffer off BEFORE removing the pressure from the pad and the paint or you will sling 3M product every where. After turning the buffer off, remove the 3M with an towel, and then wipe the surface immediately with denatured or rubbing alcohol to observe your progress. Do not let the 3M dry on the surface.

After done with the buffer and 3M, do one more alcohol wipe down and then on to Z-5 and Z-2. What does he mean by alcohol wipe down? He say rubbing alcohol, hmmm? anyone done this?

You should post this question on one of the other half-dozen threads you have opened on the subject.
