Thumbs up Smart Cleaning

Quick question: So when I'm done cleaning the wheels etc. the rags are filthy. Mostly brake and tire dust etc. I threw a big pile of them in the washer. Not a good idea. It made the washer filthy. There was a residue all over the side of the inside wash basin. I was able to get it out with some work, but it sucked.

So how do you clean your filthy rags?

Thanks for suggestions.

I have a bucket that has a tide/water solution in it to soak them as I finish using them. If they are too heavily soiled I just use them to clean up spills and then discard them.

I also wait till I have a full load of microfibers and terry towels, then take a little trip to the neighborhood laundromat. At first I felt a little guilty until I saw some women washing their baby's cloth diapers........yucky

I just throw a load of terry towels and microfibers in the washing machine. Havent't had a really solied towel yet but when I do I'll let it soak in a bucket of soapy water and then spray it good with water hose before putting in washing machine. Sounds like Home Ec. 101!

I would advise to keep all of your wheel cloths and wheel towels separate from the paint towels and cloths, when I say separate I mean use different ones for the wheels and do NOT wash them in the machine at the same time as your paint towels. You might use a sponge just on the wheels (I do not like to use a sponge on the paint) to keep from messing up so many towels. I also use those blue Scott paper shop towels on wheels and just throw them away.

How do you guys clean the small wax applicators? I read somewhere that its a good idea to remove the sponge inside but there aren't any openings to remove this (the applicator was from DF towels, the one that you get free with orders over $25).
