Default Cleaning Wheels: ANY TIPS!

I have a touring Z with the 17" stock wheels. My hands are completely knawed up because I spent the better part of the morning digging my hand between the spokes to clean the back of the wheel. IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO GET AT THIS PART OF THE WHEEL, OR SHOULD I JUST LEAVE IT ALONE? I've tried assorted wheel cleaners where you spray the stuff on the wheel, wait a few minutes, spray the wheel with a hose and the grime and dirt is suppose to magically disappear. It NEVER works that well for me. I know, some of you are going to say, "Get it clean once then maintain the sparkle." I try that, but typically a heavy rain will hit, making the wheel filthy again. So what tips and secrets have you used to keep the backs of your wheels clean, or do you just worry about the front of the wheel?

Thanks for any advise!
Michael

I've got 18" wheels so it's easier to get my hand in the back. I use an old wash mitt. But on other wheels I've had I used a
back-brush (kind used in the shower) to reach in there. It did a pretty good job. There are other kinds that can be bought at auto stores. Spray the wheel cleaner on then agitate with the brush.

I have the 18" wheels. I just spray on my wheel cleaner, and I have a long handled brush (old kmart/walmart/auto store) kind of car wash brush that fits in there well. Its a square shaped brush about 3.5" wide and about 1' long. I get in the wheel just fine. The only issue is where the caliber is.. that part of the wheel requires me to really squeeze the brush in there.

I bought some nice rim brush from properautocare.com, but stick to my old one because the new one can't get to the inside of the rim like my old one does.

I think the key is.. skinny and long.

The 17" don't have as much spacing as the 18" tho, so you probably have it much worse.

Proper Auto Care also has a long straight brush that also bends, perfect for wheels that have thin spacing between the spokes.

I just worry about getting the front of the wheel clean. Anytime you wash your car spray the brake calipers(where it contacts the rotors) with a hose. You would be surprised how much brake dust comes off. Good idea to put a coat of wax afterwards.
