Default Buff + compound???

Took delivery of SS 2 weeks ago and was very unsatisfied with paint. It was already full of swirls and minor scratches. Dealer had promised to fix it up and he is coming through. However detailer feels that buff alone will not get rid of all the swirls (there is lots) and suggest doing a slight compound before buffing. Any opinions??

P.S. I have taken delivery of 6 black cars and know about swirls and their maintenance but this is just too much for a brand new car.

I'd certainly try buffing first. Always try the least abrasive method first. The swirls must be pretty deep if you have to use compound. The dealer must have used the "broom" method to wash your car.
