Dealer Damage, need advice on fix?
Hello all,
I received my SilverStone touring about 2 weeks ago, and once in my garage in the light I noticed major clear coat scratching on the entire roof.
It seems to be transport related damage. However, the scratching is rather deep. There is one area I can feel with my fingertip, but I dont think it goes through the clear coat.
I dropped it off at the dealer and they "forgot" to repair it!
My question is- should I attempt the fix myself by purchasing a high speed buffer, pads, etc.
Or take it back and have "Dan's boddy Shop" give it a try. I dont know if I like the thought of this.
Also I could use a filler, but I would really like to start with a "clean" car.
The damage is a combination of swirl and scratch marks which go from the passenger side across the car to the driver side, with some random scratching.
Thanks,
Eric

Well I would not be a happy camper at all.
Do you think this is transport damage or does it look like the dealer scratched it when prepping it?
Personally I would NOT touch it myself and see what the dealer would do to fix it. If they try and paint the car it will never look right.
Have any pictures of the damage?

Looks to be transport damage, 6 inch thick band across the leading edge of the roof, and the same across the trailing edge of the rear roof.
It looks as if the car was strapped down with two 6 in. cargo straps, but the dealer says the car is strapped from the bottom on its ocean voyage. I tend to agree, which makes the damage very odd.
I would not let them paint it, if my life depended upon it.
Thus, it looks to be like buffing will be the only option.
I will post some pictures later tonight.
Good suggestion- contacting Nissan. I'll do that tomorrow, if need be.

This isn't the first case that I've heard of this. A client had this happen with his Miata. He too discovered it when he got home and had some difficulties with it. However, you've had them admit to it so that is a great start.
The thing that I'd be most careful of is that often the detailers dealerships are somewhat low paid, and learing the whole detailing game. I'd find out what products and techniques he'll be using. I'd hope that the detailer would be using 3M's line, masking all sensitive areas. There are some other lines that are pretty good like Farecla, Megiar's and Auto Magic.
I am 99% sure you won't be needing it to be painted as if that were the case you'd have noticed it at the dealership. Keep us posted.... I sure hope you don't have to
to get some quality workmanship out of them!
