Just thought I'd share my experience and pass on what I did today. For those that want to keep your wheels around a while, here's what I did.
I had an opportunity today to finally do what I've been meaning to do for weeks if not months. My wheels looked clean, but I was not satisfied with it knowing that there were spots on the inside of the rim that could not be removed from a simple hand wash. I had tried using a claybar last month to remove all the imperfections, but that didn't work at all.
Here are some pics after I drove through a storm yesterday. We haven't had rain in a long time, so the roads were pretty dirty from traffic and what not.

This is the reason why I wanted to do the wheels. We got caught in a storm after a small Z meet and lunch.

Next thing I did was set up a staging area to wash the wheels. I laid out a floor mat on the grass, then sprayed the wheels down to remove all the surface dirt first. Then I washed the wheel with regular car soap and a wool mitten. After spraying that off, I used Nevr Dull polishing wadding cloth to remove all the contaminants from the inner wheel. This stuff works great! All the road tar and rail dust came off with a little bit of elbow grease. I did the whole inside and backside of the wheel. I did NOT do that to my polished lip.
After scrubbing it down with Nevr Dull, I washed the wheel again. Sprayed it down and moved it the another staging area to dry them. When the wheel was dry, I used a liquid wax on the front, back, and inside of the wheel. I covered my spokes, lip, and inside surface with wax. Then I let it sit for a couple of minutes before taking a tee shirt to get it all off.

It's amazing how clean the wheels look now. I don't think I've ever noticed the pearliness of the bronze paint on the spokes before. I am still happy with the wheels and tires that I took over a year to find and decide on.
Of course, there is only one word to describe my wheels after I got through with them: Smooth.

I'm going to have to buy some Wheel Wax. Seems a lot of people swear by it, so I'll give it a try. It's supposed to keep the gunk off and allows me to easily clean the wheels.

Val, did you do it?
I spent last Friday detailing the car and put her up on jackstands again. The wheels were still pretty clean from when I did the heavy detailing that all I had to do was wash them down.
Then I went a little crazy and washed my inner wheel wells including the brake and suspension components.
It's a Z thing....
