Default A question about using Tire shine products

I searched a bunch of threads so far, and I've seen someone ask this before with no asnwer:

How harmful is it when you accidentally get some tire shine/spray/gel on your paint and wheels? For instance, if you put on too much tire gel, and it spins off onto your paint, or if you're using the tire spray foam, and some just gets onto the fender, how harmful is it? Is it something that I will have to remove immediately or it will eat away the paint?

And also, what about some of the tire foam/gel getting onto the actual rim? Will that damage the finish on rims, such as Work Emotion CRs?

I just wanted to know, as I usually try to clean up as much excess product as possible, but sometimes its hard to get it all without spending too much time. Thanks!

Sno

There's nothing corrosive in those products, so the only problems it will give you is a greasy residue on non-rubber surfaces...which you can easily clean off.

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'm relieved now, knowing that the stuff is nothing damaging.

FWIW, Its potentially harmful to clearcoat, and can permanently stain the clearcoat according to the Infiniti owner's manual, not sure what the nissan manual says about that

Tyre (tire) shine, mixed with any residue off tyres (goes ikky black), if not cleaned properly, on bright or paler colours can stain paint if left.

Most product efficent and most effective way to apply a gel type tyre shine is with a cloth or a specially designed sponge or soft bristle brush, minimises waste spin off (all depending on the consistancy of the tyre shine).
