Thank you for supporting Detailed Image, I greatly appreciate it. We make every effort to process and ship orders the same day. Typically we ship out orders in 24 hours or less. You selected some great products and I'm sure you're going to really like the Porter Cable 7424. The only thing you may want to adjust is that you got a heavy and light polish. Sometimes I will use a medium polish (Menzerna Intensive Polish) in between to ensure all the haze is buffed out. You will probably be okay if you thoroughly work in the Final Polish II assuming you don't go too aggressive with the Power Gloss. The yellow pad is the most aggressive and if you use that with the Power Gloss you may not be able to buff the haze out with just the Final Polish II and a white polishing pad. My recommendation would be to use the Power Gloss with the orange pad and Final Polish II with a white pad or get the Intensive Polish and do the following routine: Power Gloss - yellow pad, Intensive Polish - Orange Cutting Polish, Final Polish II - White Polishing Pad. Sorry if this was confusing, you can see more of this information if you read our Detailing Guide. Let me know if you have any other questions about these products or anything else related to detailing. Thanks again for shopping at Detailed Image!

Thanks for the advice.
I hadn't planned on using the Power Gloss on the entire vehicle, only for spot work areas that I have in the paint - like the couple of minor scratches in the rear bumper from the plastic garbage bin being dragged against the bumper (happened last weekend) and a bird turd stain on the hood from the previous owner.

I just wanted to remind everyone there are two days left to take advantage of these specials. Let me know if you have any questions or if you need any recommendations.

Greg,
My first experience with a PC has not been what I had been expecting.
The LC velcro backing pad separated from the PC while in use. The backing pad looks like the bolt either melted or worked its way out of the plastic.
I was using the Menzerna IP with a LC Orange pad, allowing the machine to work under it's own weight but still moving it around (slowly), and adjusted the opm between 3 to 5 like the instructional videos on Autogeek describe.
Did I get a defective velcro backing pad or am I using these items improperly?

Todd,
Thank you for contacting me about your experience with the buffer and backing plate. This certainly should not of happened and we'll see if we can identify the cause. I basically came up with two theories of what could of happened, while there may be other plausible options. Possibly you received a defective backing plate or buffer that would need to be replaced. Possibly something was wrong with the threading which did not allow them to work together right. I have yet to hear about this particular problem ever happening with either product but it could happen. The other theory I had was that the backing plate was not screwed in all the way. When you get the Porter Cable 7424 it comes with a wrench which you must use to fully tighten the backing plate. If the backing plate was a little bit loose you may have been using the buffer without the backing plate being attached properly. This would most likely results in the backing plate moving slightly erratic and eventually falling off. While it was being used it would most likely build up a lot of heat and friction, which could damage the threading. Let me know what you think of these two possibilities. Also if you have any pictures of this damage I would greatly appreciate you forwarding it to us. Lake Country Manufacturing supplies our backing plates and they are very committed to studying any defects and improving their manufacturing process. Thank you again for contacting us about this issue and I look forward to hearing back from you.

I used the supplied wrench to tighten the backing plate to the PC. After the incident, the bolt was very hot to the touch - nearly to the point of not being able to handle safely.
I centered the pad on the backing plate as close as possible, too.
I have pictures available but will have to wait until I get home from work to supply them. Is there an email address for you that I should be using to contact you with.
Other than this slight mishap, your service and products have been excellent. Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing more details about your experience and posting those pictures. From what I can tell that looks like a manufacturer defect. I'm going to send you a replacement backing plate today and I'll contact Lake Country about the backing plate. I'm also going to include some free microfiber towels with this shipment. I apologize for this unfortunate experience and I appreciate your patience and understanding. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you.
