Ok, my soon to be training officer is a K9 unit, and he smokes. My question is how to remove the smell form the car. When it's a normal day it's not that bad cause he washes the dog every other day and sprays out the back when needed. But when it's cold out and raining like it has been lately it smells like wet dogs smoking with a mold funk twist. He hit's the heat and it get's bad quick, it was so bad he left the dog at home several days last week. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

yeah im not to sure on removing them but febreeze auto scent i use in my Z once a week just spray it on all my carpets and it keeps my Z smelling pretty good. That and zaino leather in a bottle can pretty much get me aroused by the smell.

 

meguires has a oder eleminator spray. you could try that out then spray fabreeze after that to have a nice smell. the oder elemintor is made to reomve smoke and animail smells

 

you can get a box of arm and hammer baking soda (the fridge one) that the sides open up and stick in there to aid in absorbing the smell. since your running the heat you can also put a dryer sheet under the dash by the floor vent, the heat will activate the sheet and will smell like fresh laundry.

Any update?

 

Go get yourself an ozone machine. Leave it in the car for 6 hours with one window BARELY cracked. Then take the ozone machine out, open both windows, leave it for at least an hour.

There will be a bit of a weird smell the first 2 days but then all smell will dissipate and then you are free to provide whatever kind of smell you want in your Z/G.

 

^LOL i dont think he wants to spend that kind of money. The other suggestions will work and are less than 10 bucks

Thanks for the suggestions but a patrol car doesn't have carpet so i can't put stuff on the carpet and it wouldn't work in the back expecially since the back has drain holes for the dog. I'll try the baking soda first since it's the least $. Keep the suggestion coming and thanks for all of your help thus far. O and do you know if the foggers will be safe for the dog??

No offense, and there are things that will work ... But there are some things you just have to tough out and deal with---it cant all be Buttercups and Mountain Streams. You chose a route and learning to acclimate to twists and turns are what separates the men from the boys. Let Rover be Rover ---he has that right. And people smoke---deal with it and use Fabric Softener to get the stench out

 

No offence taken.And if ya want to know the whole story. The officer asked me if i knew any way to get rid of the smells. I told him about this forum and told him i would ask. I'v been in some pretty rough places in my life and i have toughed it out so if ya think i'm complaining ya don't know me at all.

Then in that case ---something that works well is Arm & Hammer Odor Eliminator for Carpet & Room---Thats for Smoke, Mildew,Mold.

There is also a A&H Eliminator for Pet Smells.

Both are a powder in a 30oz Shaker Box and the box is yellow and sold in the Room Freshener Dept of the Grocery Store....bout a Buck and a half

This WILL solve the Problem

 

call a professional automotive odor eliminator person. This is one way where you are actually taking all smells out of your car and not just covering it. They will simply steam and suck out all the odor in your car with a machine for around 3-4 hours. Works great. Sometimes we get some nasty trade in cars at the dealers, this is the only way.

 

Hummm... I appreciate the suggestion but i'm thinking DIY is the only way. He's not going to spend alot of cash on a car that some idiot might ram the next day, so a pro job just isn't going to fly.

 

Sprinkle the Arm & Hammer on the Dawg and Chimney Man too

 

I'll give it a try. I also might suggest the odor bomb to him but not sure how that will effect the dog.

contact www.topoftheline.com and ask them about the bombs? i know they work casue the fumes get into every crevice but not sure about safe for the dog? i would assume so. its not like you set it off then go riding around. BTW the arm and hammer box will take awhile to absorb the smells its def not a overnight thing, shake the box up daily and put a new one in every week or 2 they are cheap. might want to put 2 boxes in, and just wedge them in the back somewhere by Rover. trust me it works, did you try the dryer sheets? that will help mask the smell while the baking soda is absorbing the stinch.
