Default Dealer installed front plate holder...

Hello all, first post to the forum!

I got my Daytona Blue Z a week ago Saturday and have been nothing short of beaming this entire week. Today after surfing some articles about detailing the car (thanks Dr. Bonz) I noticed the following item:

http://www.strictlyz.com/customer/pr...roductid=16313

Basically its a front lic. plate holder that mounts flush with the grill to give the car a cleaner look on the front bumper. While I was thinking about how that might effect the aerodynamics of the car, it dawned on me that the dealer put a front plate holder on the car when they went to detail it after I had purchased the vehicle. To confirm my suspision, I went over to the dealership this afternoon and looked at the 3 other 350's they had in the lot. None of them had the front mounted plate yet, however they all had two small dimples that are for guide holes for this plate mounter.

Now the question I have is two fold. First, if I decide to get this grill mounted plate holder, is there any way to clean up the holes that have been put into the bumper? Second, which is probably more suited to the mod forum, do you think that particular holder would effect the areodynamics of the car?

Unfortunately I live in a state (Oregon) that requires you to have a front mounted plate. I really don't need any additional reason for the police to take notice of my baby. The car attracts enough attention as it is.

I can only tell you that i purchased mine from strictlyZ. Good service, quality bracket and was easy to install.
Unless you're going to push that baby to 156mph I would not worry to much about aerodynamics.

Did you have the dealer mounted plate on it already? If so, what did you use to clean up the holes it put in the bumper?

no. i specifically told the dealer not to do so.

i believe that a pro body shop can do a good job at filling the holes.
the end product could even look better than the original. Nissan put dimples in bumper as drilling guides.

good luck.

Default NO DRILL BRACKET.....AGAIN!

NO DRILL front plate bracket! LOOK!!

My gift to all you fellow z-car nuts (one more time!):

You do not have to drill ANY holes to mount the 350Z front plate.
Here's how:
- Go to your local auto parts store and buy the $2.99 "Universal License Plate Bracket". It is about 8 inches long with LOTS of holes and slots so it will fit any application.
- Go to your local hardware store and get two 3" x 1/4" toggle bolts.
- Mount the bracket with the toggle bolts through the grill to each side of the tow-hook area. DO NOT drill holes! Snug it down.
- Mount your plate TO THE BRACKET.

That's it! The bracket fits over the tow hook area and is easily removed by simply loosening the toggle bolts. Since the plate is mounted to the bracket and NOT the grill directly, there is not contact to painted areas and thus no rubbing/scratching.Total cost about 4 bucks......lots cheaper than the one Courtesy is selling!

I have been running the car in the summer heat with absoulutely NO adverse effect in cooling or areodynamics. The bracket loosens and comes off in seconds if you wish!

Z on!

I'd probably do something really close to that after looking at the car today. Unfortunately the "damage" has already been done so to speak.
