Bill, I didn't mean to imply that you apply too think on your car. What I meant was that it would seem that you would be using a lot just on the applicator head of your orbital buffer. Again, maybe I'm wrong.

 

No problem, I knew what you meant. The red wax pad is designed/made to hold product on the surface of the pad. You don't need to load it up before it distributes product.

It really works quite well. Nice thin, even layer.
You should try one out. I think you would find it a good investment.

Well I now have 4 layers of Z5, and 2 (maybe 3, can't remember) layers of Z2. Car looks nice. Different kind of shine compared to CG. CG "pops" more, Zaino is deeper shine. All scratches were removed prior to Zaino. Car finish ('cept for rock chip touch ups) looks flawless.

My new formula Zaino stuff will/should arrive Thursday. I guess I will apply them this weekend.

I'm trying to catch Dr. Bonz in layers, but damn. . . . . . !

 

Quick question Dr. Bonze:

Can you qualify/clarify a "light claying?" I clayed for the first (and only) time a few months back and so I don't know how to gauge my claying. Do you measure by how much pressure you are applying to the car/bar, or by virtue of how much dirt seemd to be coming off on your bar (should be minimal since I will wash before hand), or maybe by how quickly my arm fatigues? It's a goofy question but I really don't want to undo the 7 layers of Zaino I've already got on there...Thanks

Yes I'm curious about the "light claying" as well. :-) Maybe it means doing it really quickly or something.

BillR how did you "strip off" the CG? I thought that stuff was supposed to make a very hard shell on the paint/clear-coat.

 

Thanks to both of you, Bill and Bonz! Today I applied layer 10 of Zaino to my DB - put it on by hand - buffed it with a random orbital buffer.

I'm very pleased with the finish!! I used to have people stop me and ask me about the car. The past month or so, people have stopped me to ask me about the finish - remarking on how unbelievable gorgeous it is.

 

By light claying I mean not very aggressive. I only lightly rub the clay over the paint. I more aggressive method would be more like using a Brillo pad to strip off CG etc.

Yes, CG does create a "shell", and it IS visible. But it does shine, just don't apply too much. IMHO, CG is great for the person who doesn't want to continually detail his car. That is not me, I enjoy detailing the car. I still use CG on my wifes car. First coat just before Easter, and second coat (didn't really need it) last weekend. Looks GREAT, and protects well.


Do not try this!!!! It could ruin your paint!!! I used DuPont Enamel Reducer to remove CG. I used to (long time ago) do high end paint jobs on cars. Therefore I know how to properly use solvents w/o ruining paint. Believe me, this stuff stripped *everything* off the car. Then I used 3M Perfect-it swirl remover for dark paint to remove any swirls, scratches, etc. The paint was about as "virgin" as it can get. Then came the Z1, Z5 (w/ZFX) and Z2 and Z6 in between.

I am very pleased with the look so far. I am going to try to catch Dr. Bonz in layers. His paint looks so deep you could swim in it. That is the look I am striving for. So far so good.

You can kill the Z1 if you are using ZFX, isn't that right? That's how it was explained to me. I'm a traditionalist though. Z1, Z5, garage for 12 hours, Z2, Z6, victory dance.

I can't believe your brickyard shines like my super black! That's not fair. I just used 3M Perfect It so I'm down to 3 coats of new formula, but the paint looks immaculate! Take care.

Correct Danny. Don't need Z-1 anymore with ZFX. Sal HIGHLY recommends the ZFX and says he likes to use it EVERY time. I think I'll start doing this more often now.

I average about 60 hours per week at least. Sometimes more. I do most of my posting at night. I do my detailing either on my weekends off (every other one) or again, at night.

Bonz - You car looks awesome. You made me do another coat of Z2 today... well, I used the new Z2 and it is great. I did use the Z6 after that and I think used the same towel, anyway, now I have some hazing all over my car, I guess a residue of Z6... Anyone has any suggestion how to remove that? I am planning on another Z2 coating tomorrow. I want to make sure this residue is removed.

 

Try the Z6 again but always use a clean towel..I go through a bunch of towels when I clean the Z..by using the same towel you may have reapplied some of the Z2

 

I agree. Try to mist on some Z-6 and with a microfiber towel (if you have one) or a clean NON-SWIRLING towel buff it out.
