Default Me versus the Funk Product Review... Operation Odor

Well, unfortunately, I live in the middle of the desert and traditional air fresheners do not fair well here. Nothing like the smell of a burnt pine tree air freshener. Anyways, my Z is not driven daily, but is usually my road trip car, which means it sees too many spilt starbucks and burgers. After time there wasn't a specific odor problem, but more of a musty smell. So today I decided to attack da funk once and for all. Weapons of choice were Sofast Odor Eater and Fabric Cleaner.

I started by dilting the fabric clean to 15:1 (slightly stronger than necessary) and misted the fabric, let it sit for about thirty seconds and then agitated it with a towel. It was nice to see the coffee stains come out, a couple of my java chips took two to three scrubbings. After that it was time to take the gloves off and attack the little microbes driving me nuts.

I diluted the Sofast Odor Eater about 10:1 for a fighting chance. I misted the fabric and let it do its work while misting a microfiber and wiping off the panels for good measure. I closed the doors and allowed the heating to run for about twenty mintutes to help dry out all the fungis clubbing in my vents as well. Came back twenty minutes later to the smell of green apples. Funny, don't remember planting those.

24 hrs. later and I still get fresh apples that is faint enough to say "I don't stink" but, not so strong as you are looking around for a Tijuana hooker. I'll update it in a couple days to see how long the scent lingers as well as whether or not da funk returns for vengeance. In the meantime I am asking starbucks for sippy cups.

15 parts water for one part fabric cleaner and ten parts water for one part odor remover. 16 oz. will last through several vehicles with ease. I thought I would burn through 16 oz. fairly quickly, but even my Citrus Wash is outlasting my initial assumption.

I am going to try diluting the odor remover a little more and just using it as a bi-weekly spritz to prevent any odor problems from taking root.

Great post, it's great to read about other people's detailed experience with products. It sounds like they both worked pretty well! Please keep us posted on the status of the odor and if it stays gone.

The solution you receive is concentrated, you dilute it to the proper strength, or basically you water it down. Think of using your car soap, you add so many ounces per gallon of water for the proper ratio and cleaning strength that provides you with suds, lubrication, and cleaning power without leaving film behind or stripping your wax. Same concept to a certain extent. I just premix the solutions and use different colored sprayers for each product. I think Wal-Mart has sprayers for under a buck.

Well 72 hrs. later and the apple orchard is no longer growing in my car, but more importantly the musk and odor from before did not return to take its place. Considering the product is not intended as an air freshener, it definately has done its job thus far. I might keep it diluted and make it a bi-weekly part of my detailing regimen. I'll post up in a couple weeks to make sure da funk is gone for good.

Well, a couple weeks later and the funk has yet to return. I am thoroughly pleased with the Sofast Odor Eater and would definately recommend it to anyone looking to keep their car odor free. My interior was in good shape, but I did loan the Fabric Cleaner to a coworker who had spilled some berry juice on his seat and given up on removing it. It took three applications, but he got it out and was impressed with the results. It is hard to CG for interior products.

Thanks for the follow up, it's great to hear that it is still working I love the Sofast Odor Eater as well. I just used it on a damp and musty carpet to remove the odor and bacteria causing it.

I wish I had grabbed some pictures of his berry stains, it sounded pretty bad and had been baking into his seats for the past couple weeks. I put some product reviews up on your site as well. Again, it is amazing how far 16oz. will go with this stuff.
