Default VandyZs 03 Silverstone

This 350Z belongs to one of my good friends and a fellow member, VandyZ. I detailed the car about a year ago, and I have the car for the week to do another full detail.

Tonight I started what will be a week long detail by washing the car.

The car was rained on this weekend when I first got it, and had some road grime from the trip down.

Here is how the car was before I started.

I started off by cleaning the wheels and exhaust. I will later remove and clean the wheel wells, suspension components, brakes and inside of the wheels.

After finishing the wash I was rather impressed with the condition of the paint. It has been over a year since I detailed the car, and except for some minor RIDS the car was fairly marring free. It goes to show what you can accomplish if you properly wash a vehicle.

This is the only area that I have to really focus on as the magnet for the sat radio has caused some deep marring over the last year.

The culprit

Tomorrow I'm going to focus on the interior, engine bay, and sills.
Wednesday through the rest of the week I'm going to polish, seal, and wax the car.

Right now the planned process is
Clay
Menzerna IP via orange pad where the sat radio is attached to the roof at 1500 using a Makita 9227C
Optimum on White CCS Pad at 1200rpms via Makita
Ultrafina on Blue CCS at 1000rmps via Makita
Menzerna FMJ on Red CCS via PC
Either 1Z Hart Glanz or P21S 100% as the LSP

I'll post updates as I move along through out the week.

I must say though right now I have a decent collection going on in my garage. Try and guess the other cars...

That's a lot of steps, are there a lot of swirls? How bad is the paint? Can't reall tell anything from the pictures, especially when the color is silver. If you're doing all that, that's going to take some ridiculous time. Mackie just helped me do a 1step on my car and topped with s100, came out really nice.

There aren't any swirls from previous details, or spider webbing from washing that are apparent under halogens, or in the sun. The marring that is there is from pass bys in the garage or from working on the car. I'm not getting aggressive with the car, I have all week so I can make sure it is perfect with the multiple steps.

Well I've been really busy the last two days, but today I finally got around to the interior. All I ended up doing was vacuuming, applying Leatherique on the shift boot, and 1Z vinyl and rubber care/protectant.

The interior was in pretty good shape...
Befores

Light dust

The Leatherique (the rejuvinating oil is still on as I'm typing this)

These are how the car is now. I still have to finish the Leatherique, but the oil needs to sit on for a few more hours.

Another quick update.

Awhile back Autogeek sent me some Surf City Metal Polish with one of my orders. I tried it out for the first time today, if you look at the first post you'll see what the exhaust looked like before as well as the wheels. I ended up spending most of the time on the exhaust tips and muffler trying to clean them up, and then spent a fraction of that time on the lips and centers of the LMGT4s.

I also finished the shift boot off with Leatherique cleaner after removing the film left by the rejuvianting oil.

Here are the pics

I was surprised the lips and centers weren't cleared on the LMGT4s, I figured they would be. Anyway, the pictures don't really show the improvement, but in person it was noticeable with one wheel done and one not.

I'm pretty much done with the car now. My halogen light decided to burn out so I couldn't use it to show any correction/current condition, but I'll get some sun pics tomorrow.

Anyway, I followed most of the process I had planned from the first post.

I ended up using Menzerna IP with an orange pad on the roof, and rear bumper cover as it had some light spider webbing there I hadn't noticed before.

The rest went
Optimum White CCS, 1200rpms
3M Ultrafina Blue CCS, 900-1000rpms
FMJ Red CCS, PC speed 1

I like the outcome so much with the FMJ that I didn't top it with 1Z Glanz Wax.

Here are the pictures.
Thursday night I started by claying the car then taping it up.

Grabbed the Makita

I also didn't take off the wheels so I cleaned around the wheel bolts with some Q-tips.

And here are the afters from tonight.
The process creates alot of dust (especially the IP) so I had to wash the car after I finished applying the FMJ

Thanks for looking... I'll post the sun pics sometime in the afternoon.

Just curious what muffler/exhaust is that? Is it a stock Nismo exhaust, it says . . . z . . . on the muffler itself? Outcome looks GREAT.

It looks good James! Although it's hard to tell from that shitty camera you're using. But I know you do a fantastic job.

Yep, Fujitsubo Ti Exhaust. And thanks for the comments.
Zwole, I may be in Oklahoma in another year or so... heh. But, I doubt I'll have anytime when I'm in your state for about 6 months. It's really easy to get a car to look well, I started with a PC over a year ago, and just kept moving up as I gained experience through alot of reading and practice. I just do it for the satisfaction, and it is nice to have paint that isn't marred. Just get a PC and if you don't have time maybe do a panel/section of the car at a time till you get it all done.

Not everyone can have a Nikon D40 or better... But give me another ten minutes or so and I'll blow that D40 out of the water with the camera I'm about to borrow.
