Default What to do/not to do with freshly painted bumpers...

Hey,

I am getting my car back from the body shop. Basically, I had the front bumper, sides, and rear bumper re-painted Magnetic Black. I was wondering what I can and cannot do to the paint. Many people say you should wash it but you shouldn't be too rough.

I am planning a detailing session for the rest of the car. I was advised to wait 90 days till I waxed/polished the freshly painted bumpers, and I will do that. My other question is, can I use Zaino products, (Dawn Liquid Blue/Claybar/Z-2/Z-4/Z-6/Z-7 soap), on the rest of the car. Should I not be using Zainos Z-7 or Dawn soap becasue it might mess up the newly painted bumpers?

Thanks,
Dan

well first off they are right you dont want to polish or wax the new parts that you had painted. but you can use the z-7 to wash the whole car, and dont rub to hard on the paint but it will be fine washing it.

also do not use dawn. i cant say that enough dont use dawn to wash your car it will take off the wax you have and dry out your plastics and rubber parts and fade them so dont use dawn.

Ask the person who painted the car.

just dont' wax the car for at least 3 months. You can wash and dry right away once you get the car out. But that's it. It will still look better than the rest of your paint since it's new.

Ive always heard you can clay polish and glaze the car the day you get it out of the shop, but not to seal it/ wax it.

I asked this in another thread but never got a reply. I had some paintwork done on my car about a month ago. When I picked up the car I told them I was planning on detailing it the next weekend. I asked if doing the whole "Meguires 3 step" process would damage the new paint. He said that since it would be two weeks since the car was painted it would be fine. It's been 2 weeks since I detailed the car, paint looks fine. If something was going to happen, would it have happened by now? If not, what should I look for?
Thanks,
-jason

olny problems you will see are at the time you waxed or washed.....swirlling of the paint or (brush marks)..... its not going to be a chemical change that take a weeks and then al the paint falls off.....

with new paint stay away from instant wash's like high power water streams...use soft cloths to wash and make sure you dry by dabbing not rubbing....that will stop and pant shifting....

the time you should wait is up to how the body guys did their work if they baked the paint after or let it sit in the booth for a couple hours then rolled it out.

for the Dawn dish soap comment....never and i mean never use dish detergent to clean a car in not only takes off all wax but has things in it to break down baked on grease not wash a car, it will distroy a clear coat.

i would advise letting the car sit for a week after getting it back, letting it get sun light to heat and cool the panels so the paint can cure, and respond to them. then give it a wash, using auto soap, dry, wax.....get atleast 3-5 coats of wax on the new pannels befor you decide to clay bar.(clay bar is a high grade sandpaper that cuts into the wax and clear coat)

then your good go no more worries about new painted panels.

So is it a good idea that when my Z gets out of the body shop around late August, to just drive it a little and keep it garage for the winter?

Wax it in the spring?
