Unhappy 8 coats of Zaino down the drain

All those hours, all that effort.

So I had 2 body panels repainted after getting keyed. But the body shop decided to wax the entire car. Some skunky wax too! On top of that, they dressed the tires with some grease that slung everywhere. I've washed my car twice and I still can't get some of it off. The worst is all the crap that got on my wheels. They were a breeze to clean with all the Zaino i had on them. Now I can't even get rid of the brake dust cause its stuck onto that greasey crap.

I think the only option left is to hit the car up with dawn and take a clay bar to it. And deep clean the tires and wheels with some hi-intesity stuff.

No need to clay - Dawn will be enough.

I would clay the car if there is any over spray on it, and chances are there is, I have not yet see one car come out of a body shop without it.

Define overspray? What would I need to look for? Everything looks ok, like they masked out the parts they didn't want to paint.

Good point Kevin. Using clay to remove overspray is a good idea. I suppose that's why it's called "overspray clay." I was saying that using clay to remove wax is just silly.

Overspray is just paint where it shouldn't be. If the rest of the car wasn't properly masked when it was painted, you will have some spots that look like dust sitting on the surface.

They waxed the car after panels were just painted??? That's a no-no. The paint should have plenty of time to cure, like days...

You have to define waxing, all body shops will use a buffer compund and or polish of some type to finish a new paint job off, this of course has to be performed if the car was color sanded after the last coat of clear was shot. I have as of yet to see a body shop that could paint a panel or the entire car and after the paint dries not have to touch it with either, compound, polish, sand paper, or a buffer.....

They probably waxed all other panels and just compound buffed the newly painted area. Body shops sometimes think they are doing you a favor by waxing the rest of the car as the vast majority of population never, ever wax or polish their own cars. And who knows what kind of dirty cloths they used to rub off the wax they put on. When ever I have any body work done, if they are just working on one area, I tell them DO NOT buff or wax the areas where the work is NOT being performed.....

Supposedly with today's paint systems you only have to wait days and not months.

Basically when it doesn't smell like new paint; it has stopped gassing and it should be safe to polish it.

It stopped smelling like new paint after about two weeks in my case but I'm waiting 60 days just to be safe.

No worries, afr0puff, your Zaino is intact. You're right, though. Wash with Dawn, claybar, & drive on. The Dawn will remove the skanky wax (but it will not remove the Zaino), the claybar will remove the overspray, & you can continue on from there building on your previous foundaton of Zaino.
