Default Cleaning product left residue/white crap on my rims.

Alright, so I did a search and found some similar threads on this, some of which suggested wheel wax to fix this ****. Didn't see anything exactly like this, so I was wondering if wheel wax would take care of this as well. It doesn't look quite this bad now- i managed to make it look better, but it's still horrible when you get up close. Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

I used some cleaning **** on my wheels/rims and it got dirt off the tires, but left all this **** all over my volks. I used a tire foam to get some of the crap off, but a lot remains. Needless to say, I am pissed.

The Wheel Wax has some light cleaning properties and it also helps protect the wheel in one step. This may help get rid of the problem, but a stronger metal polish may be needed. I would recommend the P21S Finish Restorer to deep clean and polish the wheels. This product is my "go to" cleaner for wheels in rough condition. After cleaning the wheel I would protect the wheels to help prevent future problems. My preferred product is the Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant but the Wheel Wax would work as well.

In the future I would clean the wheels with a pH balanced wheel cleaner like the P21S Wheel Gel or the Chemical Guys Wheel and Rim Citrus Cleaner.

If you have any other questions please let me know I'd be happy to help.

The clearcoat is damaged. There is no cleaning product that will help. There are many threads about this. Sorry for the damage I know how you must feel.

Looks like the result of a acid based cleaner. Why members continue to ruin wheels is beyond me.

Thanks a lot man. I will be trying what you suggested, and hope it works. Powder coating shouldn't be a problem if I can't completely take care of the damage right?

I'm glad to hear the suggestions were helpful. I'm not a wheel expert but I would think you should be able to powder coat wheels if needed. Consult a wheel shop if you want to be 100% sure. Good Luck!

Wow. You are calling me a dick? First of all, I stated that I DID search, but did not see something that looked exactly like what I saw on my rims. I also mentioned the wheel wax and asked about it since I did see suggestions for using it. I wasn't sure what had happened, since another cleaning product made the rims look a little better. Sure, you and David may very well have known for years what cleaning products to use, but I do not have all of that knowledge. That I the point of this forum: for people like me to ask more knowledgeable members for advice. My friend used the same cleaner on his car, and nothing bad happened. If you and David don't want to help out, and not read my original post, don't bother clicking on the thread.

Different wheels have different finishes, some are more sensitive than others. I started using the CG Citrus Cleaner and am very happy with the results. You can't go wrong with P21S, but the CG stuff is a lot more product for the money. If your clearcoat is already damaged, considering just having them polished to avoid the hassle of future problems. A once a month polishing along with your car waxing is all it would take to keep polished wheels looking great.

ouch!! that clear coat is toast! whatever you used, it is definitely stronger than aircraft remover or oven cleaner which I tried to removed clear coat on Volks with zero reaction.

if only you are close by I can polish the wheels for you...
