Default Zaino, going back to Zero.

I've decided to strip all my Zaino and start again from the ground up.

I'm **** like that.

I lost the thread on how to strip Zaino and was wanting some advice from the gurus.

You don't need to, you can clay the car, and then recoat. Claying will not remove Zaino, but it will pull all the stuff stuck to your paint.
However, if you want to strip it, wash the car first. I use 2 bottles of ispropyl alcohol in a five gallon bucket, mix in about a half a bucket of water and wash with that solution.

Also, here's what happened.

I was outta town for a couple of days and my bro wanted to do something nice for me.

He decided to Zaino my car and he did a pretty damn decent job on it for a first timer.

The only inperfection I can best guess is that he didn't let one part dry all the way?

The driver's side door has streaks in it and I was just gonna start from zero.

I really don't mind, it meant alot to me he was willing to do all of that for me out of the goodness of his heart.

If I can clay the streaks out I'll do that, any tips?

I've got nothing to do tomorrow, so I'm gonna detail my car.

I'd really rather clay if that'd remove it.

But if not I'll STRIP IT ALL.

Contrary to popular belief Dawn does NOT remove Zaino. The only thing that removes Zaino is isoproyl alcohol and time.

Not true. Dawn cut right through my 6+ layers. This is also the 3rd time I've removed Zaino with Dawn. I know it was off because:

-car was literally squeaky clean afterwards
-water didnt bead anymore
-hard water spots in one place could be removed (couldnt when zaino was on car)

Dawn works. I seriously doubt anyone here wants to use rubbing alcohol on their finish and I sure as hell wouldn't. The dawn i used was orange and I think it was ultra dawn

Not true, Meguiars Paint Cleaner does the job too. I did it on my wife's black RAV4.
Any swirlmark remover will work also.

DAWN period.

You can use ispropyl alcohol but make sure you light it up when you're done rubbing. :-)

You would have a tough time getting me to rub alcohol on my paint! There has to be another option!

Funny you guys saying that you were able to remove the Zaino with only Dawn. Every indication ive heard is that it cant remove Zaino. Are you sure it was completely stripped?

I use Dawn along with a clay bar once a year to strip my car. Works very well.

I would be surprised if Dawn stripped it. It may have dulled it a bit with the harshness of the detergent, and that would stop it from beading up. I will check with Sal and see what he has to say. It has not been my experience, nor anyone else who has been distributing and using Zaino for several years. But we learn new things all the time.
Yes an abrasive type of cleaner/wax will remove it, I wasn't going down that road, so to speak because for me that was understood.

Alcohol is not harsh on a finish when used with water mix. I have done it many times to my 98 Vette to strip and experiment with combinations of the different Zaino products, and the paint is not harmed.
Some of the SF Bay Area folks that have purchased Zaino from me have seen the car and can testify to it's condition.
Body shops use it all the time, in many forms, to make sure paint is clear of any foreign material, especially when blending panels.

Prep-Sol, First-Klean & Kwik-Clean by Dupont being one of the brands I have seen more than others.

FYI here is a post that quotes Sal directly about using alcohol
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=335294

I will let everyone know what he says about Dawn.
