Default Removing debris from windshield?

My windshield is covered with what looks like hundreds of tiny rocks, though it is actually not rocks and no physical debris at all in those spots(or at least that i can feel). Any body else have this problem with any other vehicle? Its not noticeable enough to pick up a view on a camera but with the sun glaring in it looks like a mess. I was wondering if there were any cleaners made for this or wet sanding would help any (or hurt). I do know i wet sand my headlight when the road grime gets too heavy.

Is it debris or is the surface pitted?

It's likely that - thousands of small pits from debris hitting the windshield when you drive (sand, etc.) They are nearly microscopic but they refract the light at certain angles.

Some windshields are worse than others. It kinda' depends on the glass angle, etc. I believe Porsche 911's were notorious for lots of front glass pitting.

There are several polishing kits, etc. out there. I don't know what results they give. An internet search might tell you that....

Griot's Garage has a new claybar specifically for use on glass. That might be helpful. In addition, Griot's has glass polish and glass polishing pads for dual action buffers. You might give their products a try.

You can use ANY clay bar on both windows and wheels, that is after you have done the paint. You can only expect minimal improvement if this is piTTing.

If the claybar does not work I would suggest calling a local auto glass company. A friend of mine worked at Safelite auto glass, ill give him a call in the morning to see what he suggests.

If it's a driving hazard you can probably get it replaced through your insurance company. If you want to deep clean the surface and protect it afterward for $5.99 the Glass Science Rain Clear - 5 oz + Bonus. This kits includes two different bottles to help you. The Glass Scrub formula deep cleans the glass removing contaminants stuck in the micro-pores and it also removes watermarks, sap, road grime, etc. After that the Rain Clear Gel helps seal the glass and create a smoother surface that repels moisture. This makes driving in rain, sleet or snow much easier and safer. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well my friend that worked for Safelite said that it can be fixed depending on the severity. Also said you might be able to go through your insurance for free.. worth a shot.

first off thanks for all the replies, i was in Nashville this weekend for the colts game and i stopped at a glass repair shop and they used some jelly cleaner that looked as though it would be used for an ultra-sound. It took most of the blemishes out, but a few are still noticeable, i can live with it though because there is a $150 deductible with my insurance because it is not a driving hazard and it could be "prevented", thanks for all the info guys
