Default Brands of Clear Bra

I need to get the clear bra this Spring. I thought I saw an old post about different brands being better, thicker, etc. than the 3M. Please let me know. Also, I got a quote at the Chicago Auto Show of about $800 for full coverage. How does that price sound?

Default Clear Bra

I too plan on having one installed myself, the soonner the better cause the wether is now getting to be better.
I too wold like to know what options are out there.
$800.00 for the full kit sounds way to expenssive to me.
I too live in the Chicago area, let me know what you come up with.

Llumar makes a nice film. Has less orange peel than the 3M film and is very clear. Price is comparable to the 3M. Might be tougher to find.

BTW, the price varies greatly. I paid more than $800. It's all about the install, trust, and location.

I met the first installer while at the dealer where he was talking to one of the salemen who also has a Z. From the dealer it was double the price of what the same guy would charge if I went to him direct. He used 3M. The guy who was at the Chicago Auto Show called it "Clear Bra" which I thought was a brand itself. For those of you in Chicago, the two installers were in Westmont and Downers Grove.

Has anyone installed over the top of the existing chips. I have 6,000 miles on my Z and already it is peppered. For those of you who don't have the film GET IT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. I'm wondering if I should have the nose repainted before applying the film. Suggestions are welcomed.

I paid $700.00 for hood, bumper, fenders, lights and mirrors. Maybe a little on the high side, but I knew my installer was good. I'd rather pay for a quality job then pay a bit less for someone I wasn't sure about to do it.

What should you know about an installer to be sure they'll do a good job? Looks like there aren't many choices around here. I am told it is a new product to the area.

When I got mine done it cost me about 850.00. The guy came to my house.

Choosing a good installer is important, because most of these kits aren't an exact fit, which means cutting.

I don't know about you, but when someone is cutting film with an exacto knife while it is stuck to my car, I want him to know what he's doing.

I couldn't imagine how pissed I'd be if I removed my clear bra to find horizontal cuts in my paint along the edges.

So how does the clear bra look with rock chips underneath it??? It's at least $500 to paint the front bumper and probably more and if it doesn't show through too badly, I might go over it. It's not TOO bad and I'm trying to decide how perfect I want this to be.

I also live in the chicago land area and am looking for a good place to get the clear bra installed. If you checkout 3M's website there is a new clear bra available now and it goes by the name scotchgarde paint protection film. Supposedly it is clearer then the older clear bra. If you do a installer locate then there will be a good list of around 19 installers around chicago land. I am going to try to checkout some of these installers in the next week. I need to get one put on soon as I don't want any more paint chips from rocks, etc. I will let you know what i findout from the different installers.

I just talked to Rick from Body-skins and Jim from Protech. Both are really nice guys and offered around the same price .. close to $600 for the front bumper kit and for the hood, mirrors, fender kit. The job is around 3-4 hours so that is a really good rate. YOu can checkout the kit costs for the Z at www.xpel.com. 3M is coming out with the new film in mid march so i am going to wait to get it installed then.

I don't think Llumar in available in the Chicago area based on the dealer locator on their web site. Is there any difference in the application of either of them? Why can't an installer of one use the other? Anybody know if there is a difference in thickness of 3M v. Llumar?

they are the same 6mil thick. BTW 6mil and 8 mil are the same film. Some makers count the adhesive layer and some just count the urethane layer, but they all use 6mil of urethane. there are probably installers in your are using Llumar not listed on their site, they have been a bit slow to update

All the time. We take a roll of painters plastic floor film to drive the car over if the floors are dirty, but you could have perfomed surgery on these floors though

Default Bekaert Clearshield

Anyone know of Clearshield (Bekaert film) for a clear bra? I can get a local installer to do a G35 for about $500, a 3M installer wants $1000.
