Default Z1 or the ZFX and how to apply?

I was told by one person to apply the Z1 or FFX in swirls....then another person told me not to swirl...but to use straight up and down motions.

Help!

Also would anyone bother with the Z1 now that the ZFX is out? My understanding is its the same thing, but ZFX dries faster.

Last thing- I was told you only have to use the Z1 or ZFX ONCE and it will last forever. Is this true?

Given you have mentioned Z1 and ZFX, I'm assuming your intention is to use Zaino? A good source of information is zainobros.com or zainostore.com for "Tips & Tricks". Also, what do you want to accomplish?

Lets answer your question on application. Be it Z1, Z2 or Z5 you apply using straight strokes. On side panels, apply using vertical
strokes. On upper panels (i.e. hood, top and center portion of hatch) apply from one side of the vehicle to the other.

Z1 and ZFX are not the same. ZFX, when added to Z2 or Z5, enables those product to dry faster. How fast? That depends on temp. and humidity. As a rule of thumb, by the time you are finished applying, it is ready to be removed.

You have some purchase decisions. Do I buy the "Kit" or buy Z2, Z5, Z6, Z7 and ZFX. My suggestion is visit the Zaino web site and do some research. There is also a lot of excellent information on this site. Dr. Bonz, our Zaino leader, has posted numerous threads. Perform a Forum Search under Zaino then Detailing.

In speaking with Sal (that's Sal Zaino, owner and CEO of the Zaino EMPIRE!) he has told me time and again, that he feels that Z-1 is outdated technology and he no longer uses it. He feels (as do I) that ZFX is the way to go.

Having said that, I still like to use Z-2 and/or Z-5 WITHOUT ZFX and let it sit overnight and remove it in the morning. There is just something about sipping that first cup of coffee with a DF Towel in hand, gently buffing off that well cured layer of polish.

I would say that on average, I do approx. a 50:50 split of polish with ZFX to polish without ZFX.

So the ZFX is just a additive to add to the Z2 or Z5 to make it dry faster?
I thought it was the same as the Z1 but just had a faster trying time.

You still just use Z1 on its own.
Also do you only use Z1 once EVER, or is it more like a wax were you would use it every 6 months type thing?

Thanks a ton guys, i really appreciate it.

So for the side, i would apply going up and down...for the top of the car i would go side to side ( if looking at the car i would go left to right type thing?)

When taking it off, i just use a normal circular motion i take it?

I have NO experience with Z1. I think if you read between the lines in Doc's reply, Z1 is not a product he would use or suggest someone buying.

You are correct on the application and removal. You need to review the information on the Zaino web site. Consider getting Z2, Z5, Z6 and Z7. Based on your post, not sure if you already have ZFX. A small amount of ALL of these products goes a long ways. One ounce of Z2 or Z5 mixed with or without ZFX is more than enough for an application.

ya my bad.
I was thinking the Z2 is the Z1.

Also i just want to do one order to last me 2 or 3 years.
I'm going to get the starter kit.....anything else i should get double or triple off that doesn't last long?

So my ealier question would be...does Z2 last forever...or years....or rather every 6 months?

Thanks guys. Sorry for being such a noob.

Doesn't sound you are going to be a Zainoholic. Applying Zaino on a frequent basis. The Z2 and Z5 come in 8 ounce bottles. So, at 1 ounce per application, you have 16 application.. You will use Z2 more frequent than Z5. Get and extra bottle of Z7 and Z6. This is used on a regular basis.

Correct.

Yes, but then you don't use ZFX. It's either one or the other. Not both.

So for the side, i would apply going up and down...for the top of the car i would go side to side ( if looking at the car i would go left to right type thing?)
Yes. Let to right on horizontal surfaces and up and down on the vertical surfaces. On the front of the car (near the front wheels) I sometimes do one continuous line from the passenger side panel (where the Z emblem is) up and onto the hood, across the hood and then down the drivers side near the other Z emblem.

When taking it off, i just use a normal circular motion i take it?
Yes but make sure you use a non-swirling towel! I use the DF microfiber towels to avoid swirlmarks.

I agree on getting one bottle of each of the Z-2, Z-5, and the ZFX. I'd go with two bottles of the Z-7 wash and two of the Z-6 detailing mist.

Not "required" but nice to use are the Z-18 claybar and the Z-16 Tire Dressing.

I think i got it!

Z1 is a polish lok primer you are suppose to put on the car to "seal" the car. You only apply it....you do NOT wipe it off.

So it would be Dawn, clay, Z7 then you put on the Z1 to seal the car.

But now that ZFX has come out...you don't use Z1 anymore. Just a few drops of ZFX in Z2 does the same results as Z1.
