Default Help wanted: Car wont stay smooth long after wax

Hey I have an 03 and after i wax the car it feels fine but not long after it doesnt really feel that smooth. Its like the wax isnt staying on good. Ive used Meguiars Gold Class clear coat liquid and paste wax and mothers california gold liquid wax. I am not sure what the porblem is maybe something on the clear coat? I have thought about having a guy clean the clear coat, but idk. Thanks for helping

Do you ever claybar the car?

It could be that you have dust or contaminants in the clearcoat/paint and all you have been doing is waxing over them. Once the wax starts to wash off or wear off, then you're feeling the particles left behind in the paint.

I claybarred two of my other vehicles, 7 and 10 years old, and they came out as smooth as glass. I did that 6 months ago and after I wash them they still feel that way.

It's worth a try.

What kind of time frame are you talking about? I know in the area that I live in, if the car is outside for more than a day, a very nice layer of dust/pollen/airborne contaminants always plasters my car, making it feel rough as hell.

Do you use a detailer spray from time to time in between wax jobs, doing so WILL make the paint stay slick and smooth way, way longer.............

Your problem is that you're using wax. Do you know that the melting point of wax is very low, way below the temperature your paint reaches sitting in the sun? Your wax is melting off your car.

As others mentioned, you should claybar the surface, then change to a polymer (plastic) that won't melt off your car. I recommend Zaino, but there are others available.

Yeah I'd agree that half your problem is that you are using a wax instead of a sealent, which is known to last much longer. Also, as Kevin said, using a quick detail spray is crucial. It makes a world of difference in between washes. I think Zaino or BLACKFIRE are great choices. BLACKFIRE is slicker but Zaino is more durable.

You can claybar over Zaino and it won't remove the Zaino. If you didn't do it before the Zaino you should do it anyway; it will do you some good, but not as much good as if you claybar before you Zaino.

I think its maybe like a day or so after i wax it that it loses its smoothness. Around the time i waxed it last their wasnt pollen and it wasnt dusty, so idk.

As soon as i can iam gonna use a clay bar on it, then put some Zaino on it. Does that sound right? Is the clay bar something i can do? Where can i buy it at? And how hard is it? I heard it just takes a lot of time. Was that a Zaino wax that i needed to use? Thanks for the help

Is that like the spray wax your talking about that you spray on while the car is still damp, then you whipe it in?

Check out the FAQ at the Zaino site and search this forum for Zaino protocol tips.

A long time? The first time I did my car it took me a few hours Friday evening to wash it good and claybar it, then most of a weekend, on and off, to put on 3 coats of Zaino as a base. I could have done three coats on Saturday but my arms and shoulders just weren't up to it and I didn't want to kill myself doing it. After that, after I have the car washed and dried, it takes me about an hour maybe two to apply and remove a coat. It could be done quicker, but I don't like to rush.
