Thumbs down Clutch slipping at the track last night.

Went to atco last night to drag race my stock touring 6 mt last night (first time in this car only 1400 miles). Not good. I think I killed my clutch. At atco you have no choice but to drive through the water box on your way to the line. I was able to spin the wheels and a get a little chirp, but of course no burn out. My reaction time was ok-around .34 however my best 60 ft time was 2.3 because the car wasn't grabbing. Lot's of wheel hop. My first 3 runs were bad and the last one was the worst, the car was reving but I wasn't making any time and my 60' on that one was 3.1. I threw in the towel before the end of the track. I tried leaving at 3000 rpm and also higher-4500. No luck. It was pretty frustrating, although I did have fun. Has anyone mastered their launch? Does anyone here go to Atco, Englishtown or Maple Grove? I would love to see someone do this and hopefully get some pointers on what I am doing wrong. I felt like the dumb girl at the track last night...help!

I launch at 4500 RPM. It's all about how you work the clutch. Practice makes perfect.

How did you kill your clutch? I doubt it's gone bad.

I don't think you could kill your clutch by burning it a couple of times at the track...especially on a brand new car.

You need to bring your launch RPMS down A LOT...like 2000rpm to start. Just do a quick slip/dump from 2000 and you should be able to get a 2.1-2.2 60' out of the car. Then after you master that...try upping the RPM.

Use to launch ~3900 w/ Nitto 555-RII, the road race tire not drag. Pulled 1.77-79 60ft's consistantly. The key is to start low and each run raise your launch rpm in 100rpm intervals.

Also track prep plays alot in 60ft times. Same car @ different track could not pull better than 2.15. Friend's pro-fwd car normally went 1.5's was slowed to 1.95's that day.

Going to Maple Grove on Friday - if they don't have an event going on like last Friday. I think the drive to Atco in shore traffic 2.5 hours compared to the normal 45 mins. didn't help the clutch. Got there and immediatly started racing. I am going to some of the advice you guys gave me and try launching at lower rpms. I have been practicing at red lights, ha ha.
