who has a Tq converter
I have a stall converter on my ls1 TA.. it does make a big difference from a stop.. you will probably lose some hp but gain a crap load of torque..i went from a 13.7 bone stock to the paper filter to 12.6 with just headers, lid and a exhaust cutout.. dropped to a 12.1 with the addition of the stall.. I picked up around 45rwt just with the stall.. You wont get these gains with your Z but i'm sure you'll be satisfied with one if u get it..

Not taking away anything from adding a torque converter - it is a good mod in any drag racing auto trans vehicle.

well.. i picked up 45rwt all the way through the curve unlocked.. thats 45rwt all the time.. my tq spike was 67rwt. i feel that 45 rwt through any speed in every gear
when you go to a small torgue converter you need to up the rearend ratio and put a longer duration cam in it........your car will come alive.......useing only a small torque converter with the stock rear and cam can actually slow you down ....

this might be so on a small motor car like a 350 but is defintely not true for LS1s or Stangs.. my car dropped .5 of a second just by adding a 3200 stall converter.. stock 323 gears, stock rear end and stock ls1 cam.. I would guess that on a 350z you wouldnt want to do a very big stall.. maybe a 2800 if that . i would like to hear from someone that actualy has a Tq converter on their 350Z.. enlighten us! Now my curiousity is growing lol
Can we please dicuss this topic further? I ran out of stall at the track last night, 2500 wasn't enough, I feel I could have stalled to at least 2800 or 3000...I almost bog right now I was hooking so much.......

If you have a data logging program look at what rpm your car falls back to when it shifts (at WOT) is a good way to tell what stall you have. Holding gas and brake to see what rpm it will go to is not really a good indicator. My T/A had a 4400 stall in it on the street it would stall about 3600-3700 before it would spin at the track with slicks it would go about 4000

More than likely its a gearing problem and or the powerband of the engine
the z has a true stall of 1900rpms. with slippage you can get it up to 2500 maybe, but thats with slippage which is bad for your tranny and useless.
i had my tc done threw edgeracing. ture stall is now at 3200rpms. slippage is almost none existant. i had mine tuned for nitrous use so it all depends on what you want it to do and how you'll be using it.
i dont believe your supposed to pick up any hp or tq with a modified tc. lol, a lot of letter words. anyway, back on track. but i wouldnt know because i havent dynoed my car since the tc mod. but dont expect to.
as for times. im still in the testing phase. however, my best 1/4 time before the TC mod was 13.8 with a 35 shot.....now its 13.2 with a 25 shot. ill be at the strip running tests on a 75, 100, and 125 shot and comparing them to my times before the TC mod this coming tuesday.

You dont gain HP or TORQUe from the install. it just puts you in to the sweet spot at launch, similiar to having a clutch and dropping it at 3k rather then ease in to gear.makes you faster because the car wont start to roll till 3k rather then at 2 k. so your car has more torque available to get moving.

true, usually it is bigger, but it doesnt have to be. it all depends on your application. with the z and the edgeracing mod, they simply gutted the stock TC and made it more efficient, lighter and raised the stall using the same housing. to raise the stall you have a have a larger oil capacity in the TC. to get rid of slippage, the TC has to be able to lock up and remain static even if its full of oil.
theres a sprinkle of physics there, but i wont get into it.
