Default Trouble Shifting to 4th

03 6MT Touring

This has happened several times to me now while drag racing. In 3rd just before I have redlined and I try to shift the gearbox will prevent me from easily slipping into 4th. If I slam it hard enough it will go in, but it feels similar to when trying to downshift into a gear that is too low for your current speed.

I'm probably losing 0.1s on my time and maybe 2MPH on trap speed. This has yet to happen to me on my first run, so I had at first guessed that it may be heat related. Keep in mind that I am usually driving 1-1/2 or 2 hrs to get to the track where the car will sit 1+ hrs before my first run. In general I have had to wait about 1 hr between runs as well.

Anyone else have this problem? Searching didn't reveal any obvious answers or problems similar to mine.

Every once in a while my 4th gear seems to be hard to go in. I think its me though, because it usually only happens when I race after I havent driven my car for a few weeks and Im still gettin gused to it again. What I do is instead of holding the shifter pistol grip into 4th gear like most people, I hold it with the palm of my hand, and line my arm up straight back so I dont miss 4th. Watch my in car vid in my sig to see how I grab 4th, when I use this method, I dont miss, maybe it will work for you.

I'll have to try that. Im typically holding it pistol grip style as you described. I've *never* missed a gear by selecting the wrong one in my life. I was really pissed about this at first as I thought...maybe I'm trying to put it in 2nd rather than 4th? I've tried aiming it a bit more toward the right so that if I was missing it would slip into 6th instead of 2nd. Same results, though, so I'm starting to think it might be synchro-related.

Its difficult to make a judgment with seeing a time slip. Can you scan and post a time slip?

off topic...how do you like your GS D3's?

Sial: Try removing your shifter and adjusting the gate plate...

Happy with new tires and 60-foot times

I bought Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires for the street and road racing. Drag racing was not a consideration. Still, I’m pleased with my 60-foot times.

All I see are the red X boxes where those pics are (damn work doesn't work always)

What are your 60 ft times on those? I'm debating those in 275 or KDW in 285.

EDIT: you can PM me to keep this thread on topic, probably what I should have done first.

the two reasons you bought yours for is EXACTLY why I bought mine! Funny...glad to hear your 60' times improved...

Ive owned both and I think it would be a hard choice. Goodyears hook better off the line imo, but the KDWII's handle better, so its a compromise. Both are great tires, my 2 favorites. Im running the BFG' on my 19's now....

I have had similar problems with second gear though and they went away after I replaced the dif and tranny fluids with AMSOil synthetic

Have you tried others like Royal Purple or Redline?

Last time I asked my mechanic to do that for me I got a confused look when I picked it up. All he did was top off the fluids with what I gave him...

I am going all the way with AMSOil these days, engine, dif and tranny. I am very happy with that company.
I used both Royal Purple and Redline in my Celica and had very good results as well.

yeah, toping off won't do you much good It's actually quite simple to do yourself even though the lazy factor kicked in for me and I had my mechanic do it for me...
