c5 corvettes?
Bottom line..If the Z was stock or very lightly modded it's a slower car on the highway.
If they Z had bolt ons(I/H/E)..It is the faster car on the highway.
Now if the C5 vette was modded that would be a whole other story. They are highly overrated when they are stock.
All i have to say.

I've seen STOCK C5 vettes trap 110mph...haven't seen that out of ANY bolt-on 350Zs....the Z is going to need MAJOR work, FI or nitrous to consistantly beat stock C5s.

Bro, you can't analyze what had happen in his take on a C5 and be sitting there talking as if though. Him hitting the stick first and a C5 is going to hawk down his Z like he wasn't doing nothing. Com on' man I'm not doubting a C5 can or could be fast on the roll. But it's not going to reel him like he was in a civic or something. It's going to have to play catch up.

C5's are highly over rated?????????
-The fastest bone stock C5 has ran 12.6 (straight from the factory bone stock) (faster than you stock)
-Bone stock C5's can do 175 mph (faster than you stock)
They have a .29 drag (better than you stock)
They have 350 HP and dyno 300 rwhp ( better than you stock)
They have over 50 years of history and many recent Lemanns wins over Ferarri and the other top of the line brands for the past FEW YEARS
(better than your history and especialy recent)
They have the 50,000 dollar car chick factor and the word ( CORVETTE )
( BETTER CHICK GETTER THAN YOURS)
Now with all that being said the C5 bases around 45 grand while a 350 Z bases around 30 grand...
For one and a half times more money you should get a better handling... faster acellerating car.
15 grand isnt chump change....Throw in a few options and a convertable and your looking at a sticker price around 60 grand...
These two cars should never be compared against each other. There in two entirely different leagues..
Now on the other hand Im a racer at heart and couldnt care less about anything other than the performance of the cars....
I go too the track twice a month all year long and have been doing so for the past 3 years.....
I have never seen a 13 second bone stock 350Z
Nor have I ever seen a bone stock 12 second camaro or corvette
My track is in Oahu Hawaii were the DA is usualy 2000 ft....So that should explain it...
Heres what I have seen.....
My car is a 2004 C5 coupe....Automatic with 2.73 gears...
Now they make C5's (just like all cars) in a few different ways...
The auto with 2.73 gears
The auto with 3.15 gears
The mn6 with 3.42 gears
70% of the time the corvette C5 that you see is an automatic with 2.73 gears...
The 3.15 automatic is an option...
At my track my bone stock 2.73 geared C5 ( the slowest one they make)
went 13.5 at 103 mph in a 2000 ft DA
At the same track on the same days 350Z owners were going 14.4-14.6 at 96-97 mph...
GUYS...wake up...Theres a 1 second differance between these two cars...
Some one made a comment that the C5 would just blow by him and that he'd have to catch up....
Lets say this guys 350Z was one of the fastest bone stock 350Z's in the country and could do...
13.6 at 104 mph......
Lets pit him against a MN6 C5 that runs 13.1 at 109 mph ( pretty typical time)
But far from the fastest in the country that has ran 12.6.....
That would be a 5 tenth and 5 mph differance...And yes he would get blown by like he was standing still...
And were talking fastest in the country 350Z vrs random C5...
A better comparison would be against the avergae C5 dynoing 300 rwhp ( I personaly dynoed 299 rwhp bone stocK)...
That average C5 is gonna run 13.0-13.4 at 107-110
Now lets compare him to the average 350Z that runs 13.9-14.3 at 100-103
Guys it would be mass murder.....A second differance would be like you racing your 350Z that trapps 13.9 agaist an automatic 2002 V8 mustang that runs 14.9...
You would blow by him no problem right?
The same holds true here.
Now throw to twin hamsters on your 350Z and were talking business...low 12 or high 11 second car easy!!!!!
But the vortecs some of you guys have just aint gonna cut it...
Ive seen guys with the vortechs only running low 13's...
Any ways just wanted to tell the truth for you guys who say that a car that out performs yours in every way in over rated....
That would be kinda like me saying that a 2003 Viper wich is a good second quicker than a C5 is over rated...
That would be kinda childish.
NE ways....Your car is beautiful and I almost bought a orange one with orange leather when they fist came out...
I really wanted a C5 buy couldnt afford one at the time...The saleman was really good and kept telling me how the 350Z was the Japanese corvette and I was still getting what I wanted...
I WAS SOLD.....WIFE THOUGHT THE CAR WAS AN UGLY COLOR AND I LEFT EMPTY HANDED...
A year later money got a lot better and could finaly afford a new C5...
MAN I LOVE MY WIFE FOR THAT ONE.

That is about accurate. No replacement for displacement. Turbo you say? Well, sure but what happens when the C5 V8 gets a turbo or other heavy mods? Bottom line is we got nice 350Z's but the simple truth is there is always a car that can beat another car. The Z can be highly modded and beat a stock C5 or C6 yes.

The rest of it I somewhat agree with, but you wasted A LOT of time talking about things about the C5 vette that most of us already know. The fact is the idiots on here who think that a stock 350Z can compete with a stock C5 vette in a straight line are too stupid to even read your post, so you're really wasting your breath.
Actually, if you come across a vette owner that really doesn't know much about it, you can beat it. I raced a friend on base out here a few months back and beat him by a couple of car lengths. We both scratched our heads on that one. A few days later, he came back and told me that his mechanic had found out that you can change the settings by holding some button down on the console. He showed me and there is some feature called a competitive driving mode, and if the car is not in that mode, yes we stand a chance. Otherwise, they kindly hand us our *** each and every time.
if all things were equal the c5 would have killed you. You either got him on reaction, or he dropped into the wrong gear, or he has an auto and when he punched it there was a delay before it dropped into the lower gear. The fact you jumped out ahead instantly makes me think he obviously screwed up.
cAN0802....Your right on the money..
The C5's have a traction control button..
The button has an active handling mode that will reduce timing dramiticaly and cas the car to bog at the slightest hint of wheel spin or agressive driving..
Holding the button down for a few seconds will put the car in competitive driving mode.....This will not pull back any timing unless significant wheel spin or traction problems are noticed..Very good when tracking the C5 or auto crossing in my experience....Lets you get to a safe limit but saved my butt when I was about to spin out..
The mode I use when I race straight line is traction control off...Meaning the car isnt gonna bog or save your butt no matter what....
With the automatic C5's it is also better to have the car in 3 instead of D when racing.
These things sound simple but make a huge differance on how the C5 performs....
The first time I went to the track I left the active handling on and raced in D instaed of 3...
I pulled one 13.9 at 100 and a bunch of 14.0's-14.3's at 99 mph...
Very comparable to the stock 350Z's pulling 14.4-14.6 at 97 mph...
And my car dynoed 299 rwhp bone stock...About 10 more rwhp than the average 2001-2004 automatic C5...
I would imagine a average 97-2000 C5 ( 5 less HP and 10 less tourque than 2001-2004 and about 285 rwhp average for A4) automatic with 2.73 gears would have been running 14.0-14.5 at 98-99 mph the way I was driving it...
Right in range for one of the stock 350 Z's running 14.4 at 97 mph to take them out.
I WAS SO PISSED...I knew the DA was 2000 ft but no matter what that was freaking slow!!!!!!!
Id seen plenty of stock camaros run 13.7-13.8...
But my brand new C5 only ran 13.9 or 14's!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was seriously gonna take it back to the dealer and try and get my money back or do a trade or what ever to get rid of the slow peice of crap....
I know low 14's isnt slow...But when youve been dreaming of owning a car for years and reading all these high 12's and low 13's people get at sea level....
You EXPECT to atleaste be in the mid 13's....I was a half second slower.
I went to Corvette forum and asked questions to see if I had a dud..
Thats when people told me to turn off the traction control..
Put it in 3
And launch off idle...
I went back and tried this ( what I considered BS but was worth a try technique) and to my surprise ran a 13.6 at 103 mph my first pass...Ran a few more and ended up with a 13.5 off a 2.2 60 ft at 103 mph....
Just from using these simple steps I gained a average of 5 tenths and 4 mph...
It seriously felt like someone had put a 50 shot on the car..
So I totaly forgot to take this in acount when some of you race C5's....
Low mph roll races were the C5 forgets to push the button could really give you guys the edge...
Just last weak I was racing this guy who has a 2002 Z06 with long tube headers....
I figuered it would be a good race since we both trap the same...
We go through the 1/4 mile after starting off dead even and I end up pulling a solid buslength or two on him....
He ended up only trapping 103 mph cas he left the Traction control on.
