Help me disect my timeslip
Here is my fastest timeslip for the night:
R/T: .336
60': 2.184
330: 6.138
1/8: 9.396
MPH: 75.21
1000: 12.165
1/4: 14.536
MPH: 94.83
My sixty foot was pretty decent but my 1/4 time is slow and the mph is really slow.
I have the following mods: JWT intake, Crawford plenum, testpipes, catback exhaust, pulley, and headers. This is not a mod but I have 19 inch wheels.
I would think I'd have better top end my mods? What am I doing wrong?

I have about the same mods, minus the headers.
You 60' isn't too bad but the trap is to have that time. And the speed is really bad. I say go with the UTEC. I have mine and and getting ready to install and tune it. I think 19's drag the time down a few 10's also. Not sure though.

Those are mine. And that was done without test pipes, intake and 3.5 rear end.
Have you Dyno'd it? You need to see what the A/F is.

Whats your altitude? With a 2.1 60ft at near sea level I hit an 8.9 1/8 mile and 13.80 @ 100.8mph(my first run ever down the 1/4 stock). If your relatively close to sea level, your 60ft is decent but you need to work on your shifting a lot-especially 1-2 and 2-3 shifts...

You're not doing anything wrong.
To run better than 14.00 seconds just takes some practice. I see new racers shift at the track the same as they do on the street. That's not going to cut the mustard. The so called power shifting is unnecessary, but your technique must be fast and precise.
There is no better teacher than practice.

I think I do finish the 1/4 mile in third (never paid to much attention). It seems like my car is losing on the top end. There was another Z at the track and he posted his timeslip. This is what it says:
MINE

Other:

60' - 2.353
330 - 6.1
1/8 - 9.196
MPH - 80.39
1000 - 11.839
1/4 - 14.075
MPH - 101.43
I wonder whats wrong with my car. Cause comparing his 60 ft with mine. I would think I would have a better time. He runs on 19 inch wheels too I believe and his mods are CAI intake and catback exhaust.

Well if another Z at your track traps over 100mph and your at 94mph something is not right. Either you shift REALLY slow and dont realize it, or you have a clogged cat or something that is seriously hurting your performance....btw 3rd ends at 88mph, so your in 4th. Are you flooring it all the way through the lights?

Ive done 14.3s in Ca and that was stock. But now im wondering what is wrong. Can a really dirty filter cause the loss in top end power? Cause my car was at a body shop for a long time. I'll clean that too so I can rule it out. Im wondering if it maybe due to my pulley, maybe installed improperly.
The truth is out there.
19's , if you have the time, take one of those off and put it on a scale. i would love to know what it weighs(wheel tire combo). and heck yeah, they slow you down. there are also other variables to consider but huge 19's are killing you. Its like saying hey lets add a few more passengers to my car and see if im slower in the 1/4 mile.
grab you some 17 inch volk te 37's or ssr comps if they are still available, , if you go with a street tire put on some toyo proxes T1R's or something someone around here recommmends that is as sticky and as light.
key is to keep the unsprung weight down. i race a 97 maxima for fun with the little brother engine vq30de. I have tiny 16 inch ssr competitions on the car. Replacing my stock wheels had the effect of removing 320 lbs from the chasis, and sure enough I go out on the track and im a .3 faster.
so yeah this is a long winded post, but the wheels are not helping, might get you some ladies or in a magazine, but they will also help you get your can kicked at the races ! lol !
good job though
c
edit: both you and your friend are gaining 20 -21 mph after 1/8th to 1/4. im not sure on what the norm is but if you asked me you look slow (for a 350Z) even when you get to the 1/8th mark.
you say you ran 14.3 before ? what is different about your car now then back then, and was this done on the same track ?
even if he runs on 19's too, you need to know how much his weigh and how much yours weigh, he could be running a lightweight wheel and you could be rolling on some seriously heavy concrete blocks !(flintstone style)
good luck with it !

14.3s when i was stock. But that was in Calfiornia. No mods done. Now I have the above mods. I switched out my rear wheels and put back on the stock 18 inch Rays. Tires dont have much tread but we'll see. I cleaned my filter also. Ill be running on saturday. I hope I get a better time.
Are you shifting at redline?? I was at the track last year and there was a guy there with a Z running mid-high 14s @95-96mph and he asked me to help him out. I went in his car for a pass down the track and noticed that he was shifting @ 6000rpms instead of redline. Added to that he was shifting SLOW. So I gave him a little coaching and sent him on his way and he went from his slow times to 13.9-14.0s@100-101mph...
I think a lot of people out there short shift their cars even at the track...and that's why we see so many people with really crappy 1/4 mile times and traps...

Wow, Im shifting at redline, I set the shift light to 6500 so when i shift it should be at 6600 (redline). Im gonna practice on my shifts this week. I think im average at shifting. But my average might be slow.
2.1 60ft is way better than most of the peeps that own a Z off of this forum as oppose to 2.2 60ft, which I've seen to be the average here. Just like the others said you need to work on your shifting and you'll be good to go. Good Luck next time!

Guess what fellas. After cleaning out my JWT intake yesterday. I went to work and gunned the car and I must say that I can feel a definate difference. I wonder if its just in my head. It really seems to pull harder. Could my dirty filter have contributed to my slow times?
I should be going to dyno sometime this month. I really appreaciate all your input guys.
