Default Looking for DRs

A Supra friend of mine is lending me two of his old rims. They are 17" x 8".

I'm looking to put some DRs on these rims, but can't find any that seem like a good fit.

I'm looking for 255/40 17s. Does anyone know of a brand tire that will work?

I've found 225s (too small), and also found 285s (too big)...

Thanks !

you want 275/40/17's for those wheels. bfg, nitto or mickey thompson

the mickey's are the best for hooking
the bfgs are a good balance of both hooking and wear
the nittos are a glorified street tire in 17's IMO, of course i cant pull better times with them than my street tires :/

I've got Nitto DRs and they are much more than a normal 17" street tire on my car. BFGs and MTs (among others) hook more, but the Nittos are way better than any of the normal summer tires I've had on my car as far as hooking goes, haven't had them on the track yet though unfortunately.

i dont believe the supra rims will fit on your car. they were discussing that something doesnt fit exactly and that the supra rims need to be machined for them to fit. if this wasnt the case I would have already stolen my friends supra rims. but u can try them on your car and lemme know if they fit... if they do them imma go over first thing tommorrow and steal his dr's from him =P

well since i pull mid 1.8s on 17" street tires, i dont see 17" nittos doing much better, so they arent that much better IMO

Are 275 DRs too big for 8" rims?

I'll be heading over to LVD...They resurfaced the track, so it should be ok.

Let me know! When you get your DR's we'll go on a friday night when they have RWD slick/DR night. These are the nights most domestics run and the track is fully prepped.

Can we get confirmation on this? I know that on the Summit and MT sites, the most narrow tire recommended for 275/40/17 ET streets is 9".

they are not optimal as I stated, but they work fine. i have my et streets mounted on an 8inch wheel when they are recommended for 10inch wheels.

That's cool. I was considering sending off my stock 17s to have the rears widened to over 9", but if these will work on my 17x8 wheels, then I might just order the tires now... I suppose you don't know if its possible to roll the tire off the bead during a hellacious burnout? Got any pics of these on a 8" wheel?

I'll test it out sometime this week for you.

you wont need a huge burnout so dont worry about it, and i have had 9inch wide slicks on 7 inch wide wheels with 10psi in them and they never came off of the bead

do a search on stangnet or corral about drag radials and wheels, there is a ton of information you can use there
