Unhappy Beat by a Mustang

I spotted the Mustang 1.23 seconds. At about the 1,000 foot mark, the driver tapped the brakes so not to break-out.

Yes.

I run 13.47- 13.57. My 60-foot times are 2.0X seconds, and ET is fairly consistent. My weak point (as above) is reaction time: I’m all over the page. I spoke with the driver above before the race. He has been racing since 1966: 40 years of experience shows. The driver is so sharp that he hits the brakes at about the 1,000 foot mark. I passed him at 104 mph like he was standing still. LOL. Still not good enough.

Last time I actively watched drag racing, a 400 was a perfect light. That has changed, I presume?

Yes.

Sometime ago, the green light was set to 0.50 seconds. So a perfect reaction time was 0.50 seconds. Any reaction time better than 0.50 seconds is a red light: you are eliminated. Today most NHRA tracks are set to 0.0 seconds, so perfect is 0.0 seconds. A negative reaction time is a red light: you are eliminated.

depends on the track and class, some classes run a .400 pro tree but most are sportsman .500

.400 has been for a pro tree and .500 has been for a sportsman tree, traditionally. Recently many tracks have been switching to a .000 tree with .000 being a perfect light, anything -.001 and under is a redlight, anything .000 and above is not. The timing of the lights is still .400 seconds of yellow for the pro tree, and .500 between yellows for the sportsman.

I was just curious david. It sounds like you're shallow staging to get good et/traps at the expense of R/T. In bracket racing you should instead sacrifice good times and go for a better and more consistant R/T by deep staging, and adjust your dial accordingly.
