Default 5AT ran a little faster!!

Just got back from the track and ran a new personal best!! I went from 30psi all around to 35psi, Brake launched at 2500rpm's instead of 2000rpm's, and manual mode shifted at 6750rpm's instead of 6500rpm's. Temp. was 84 degrees into a small headwind.Anyway, I'm very pleased with the way my car is running now!

good job! Seems like a lot of air the tires, but your 60's are good.

your trap seems unusually slow considering your mods. not sure what to make of it.

Mine are always slow. two weeks ago I was running 13.83 to 13.88 and I never broke 97 mph and I had two 1.9 60' times. I don't give a crap about trap speeds i want to be there first. (no pulley, no headers, stock cats, spare in)

I always atleast trap 101 in my 5at, so im not sure what you are saying about our traps. i think the reflash possibly is screwing something up... maybe utec for precise tuning might be a good option.

Yea, it took me a year of racing on the nitto's to find out they like more air at my track. I tried 20psi at first and my best in the 1/4 mile was 14.3@96mph with a 2.2 60ft. Everytime I would add 5lbs to the tires the car would go a little faster, that combined with the cats and spacer got me the 13.8@99.9mph with a 2.0 60ft. I guess the tires were bogging too much off the line with the low psi. Anyway thanks for the props man.

As I am sure you know, rear tire pressure is a trade-off. Decrease tire pressure to increase traction. Unfortunately this will also increase rolling resistance.

I have tried more air and all I do is go up in smoke, but I don't have Nitto';s either. whatever works and that seems to be working for you. I have never bogged either, but have had wheel hop. I have only trapped 100 mph once out of 150+ runs in this car.

I think tire psi is determined by what type of tire you have and what kind of traction you're getting at your local track. If you're bogging add more air, if you're spinning use less air. I've never had wheel hop so I'm not sure about that. I could care less about trap speeds. My goal from the start was to get my 5AT in the 13's w/o nos or going FI.

That's what i wanted to do too. also to keep it in warranty. I won some drag radials for winning the Z Car Garage Drag Series so I should be able to shave a bit more. I guess i would be happy with 13.7 something. but once I get that it will be 13.5 etc etc.

4th gear in the 5at,s does suck.mine pulls hard as hell 1,2,3 and then with about 100 to 150 feet short of the line it fall,s on it,s face.alberto ran my car against davidv,s much lighter z and felt the same thing.im wondering if a reflash for rpm,s only would keep me in 3rd at the line.

I used to be able to through the traps in 3rd gear, but now with the 3.5 I have to shift into 4th and 4th does suck.

They are worth it. I wasn't consistantly into the 13's before I made the switch. I could hit them at one track north of here(faster times) but now I can hit them all day long at Infineon. I could probably turn a 13.5 at that track now.

i run 13.8z all day the track with just intake an exhaust. i mean you dont need the gears to hit 13'z. i would honestly be expecting you 2 to be in like 13.4-6 territory. if I could get a good launch i should run atleast a 13.6 the way I am right now.

You don't run at the track I do. It is a NHRA sanctioned track that is noted for it's slow times. I can run 13.5 or less 100 miles north of here and I have the same equipment as you except for the gears. My car also weighs 3360 lbs empty with no gas.

BTW: bhk1004 post up a time slip. If you are not getting a good launch you aren't running those times. G-tech doesn't count. I get 13.4's with mine.
