Default Another "my first drag race"

Fist of all, thanks to mr.tomcat and caucasiancoupe for their moral support!

I really did sh1tty on all the launches although my shifts were very consistent. Big heavy 19's and street tires, but still could not hook up nicely on launches, due to lack of experience.

Ambient conditions were about 87F, dry air, elevation 1120ft

I think the 19s slowed me down quite a bit too. My trap speed ranged from 95.3 to 95.9 mph over 4 runs.

I will post pics of the timeslips later so you guys can make fun of me and post these icons:

I also datalogged all 4 of my runs using cipher so I can analyze them later and make some improvements based on facts instead of just what I remember.

Here is my first and best slip:
The rest you don't even want to see

Code:
R/T ... 1.537
60' ... 2.455
330 ... 6.427
1/8 ... 9.679
MPH ... 74.68
1/4 ... 14.805
MPH ... 95.46

engine RPM versus throttle position, intake temperature (note, temp does not reach ambient of 90F until 3rd gear!!)

Your also at 1000+ altitude. Don't feel so bad. People dont go and try and set a record at that altitude.

Believe me, I did break 15s,

Looks like I can squeeze a bit more power out of 2nd and 3rd gear, shifting too early.

Good job! Like everyone tell me "seat time". Your times will improve everytime you go to the track. keep it up!

yes, california speedway... as mrtomcat mentioned in his thread in FI forum, we were having bad sandstorms during the day and the track was covered in sand.

Possibly one reason I was having trouble hooking up (actually most people at the track weren't hooking up too great) ... just too much sand and fine dust on the track... other reason, I'm a newb

Your biggest area to improve on is your 60ft times . On street tires , you should be able to get to a 2.0 60ft. That would bring your time down to a low 14 1/4 mile

Don't feel too bad I didn't do much better. My first time doing a 1/4 mile run as well on any car let alone my roadster.

Me against what I thought was a evo but it turned out to be a glorified lancer. If you look at most auto magazine 350Z roadsters are quartered @ 14.7. So I'm pretty happy with my last time ... but I know I can get a helluva lot closer to 14.

No belittling reply here. I reserve that for members who consistently post street kills, but never once, not once, post a time slip.

Put those charts any, and floor the gas peddle will you.

there were horrible conditions and the 1200 feet usually go up to about 4000 once you include the air density.
The track was horribly prepped, sand storm litterally coverd the trac with sand and there were about 50mph sidewinds.
I had to get out of every run I was all over the place. Almsot every car on slicks had to get out and several crossed lanes due to the lack of traction and really heavy side winds.

I really like that Cypher tool, definetely will invest in one

very frustrating day

Just work on that launch. I always did a little tire cleaning burn out with the stock Potenzas, and the Firestone Wide Ovals. Nothing major, just enough to heat the tires a little and clean the debris off. I was able to run 1.9's launching at around 5K rpms. But I would start out lower, around 3,500, and work your way up as you improve with practice.

Yeah guys, next time will be better I promise

I have this beautiful 285 tire and I'm simply not putting all of it to use.

I have the general feel of what to do now, my first run (as you can see from 1.5 reaction time) I wasn't even ready! They started the christmas tree even though I wasn't staged lol!

Default Drags...

I ran this weekend too...stuck at 14.7/14.8 all at 95mph.....

My best 60' I could pull was a 2.2 . others were 2.3/2.4 spinning/wheel hop

My rears are 275/40/18 around 30psi

Around 3000 ft. elevation cool temps.

I was really hoping for low 14's...maybe at sea level and lower 60' would help.

This past Wednesday was my second trip to the strip, couldn't break 14.1x. I had bad launches though, 60's no less than 2.3xx.

Street tires, with a good launch, the best 60' you'll get is a 2.0xx (maybe 1.9xx if your a helluva driver?) and that should help you take some time off. But with all your mods, 14.8xx is still kinda slow, I'm a bit suprised.

Keep going, work on your launch! Maybe try a trip to the strip on stock rims?

The heat and elevation are a factor too.

I actually took my car to a slow track last Friday, during warm and humid conditions. The track averages 3/10ths up to 5/10ths slower than the other tracks in the GA, AL, SC area, due to elevation. My outcome was surprisingly better than expected though.

I would love to have a near sea level track close by, like some people.
