Default New PB in the sedan

I don't post much here, mainly over at g35driver.com. I've already posted about my times there. I'd like to share them here to get a little more feedback.

Before that, a little history. Back in December of 05 I hit a 13.791@102.22 in my 05 6MT Sedan(revup). It was 25 degrees out, with a DA of -1666ft. At the time I had a k&n filter, ztube, crawford cats, and all season tires. Since then, I have not been able to touch the 13's, even with more mods and more power. I was continuously owned by my launches.

A couple of weeks ago I got a new longblock due to oil consumption. While the engine was out, I got the dealer to put on headers. 3 weeks later, I had Sharif tune the car with a utec. At his dyno, I'm putting down 246hp at peak(can't remember torque). At the local dynojet, I'm putting down 265/251, SAE.

Now my mods are all the NA boltons, minus pullies: stillen airbox, ztube, mrev+, ichiba headers, kinetix test pipes, and stillen exhaust. I'm also running a clutchmasters stage1 clutch and JWT flywheel. And I also just bought a set of 16" enkeis with 255/50/16 BFG's.

Saturday was the opening day for the 1/4 track in Steele Alabama. For the first couple of hours, there was almost nobody running, so I got to hotlap. My launches were *much* better than before with the DR's, but would be considered poor to average for street tires on a z. The problem is I couldn't heat them up. I pulled the brake light fuse(labeled stop lamp, correct?), and the ecu would still cut power as soon as I applied the brakes. So the most I could do was to just spin the rears for a few rotations and a couple of feet. Temps were in the mid 70s that afternoon, with DA's at around 1950 feet.

I started out running 25psi, then dropped the rears to 22psi, then finally 19psi. I could have tried a bit lower than that, but the rear end was too lively for my comfort at the top-end. At 19psi, I could clutch-drop at 4500 rpms and cut mid 2.0's. There was plenty of spin, but fortunately no wheel hop. If I feathered the clutch, I would bog and times would suffer. If I launched at greater than 4500, I would wheel hop and times would suffer.

I got 20 runs in for the day. The first two runs were low 14's at 101/102. The third run I saw a 13.9 for the first time in almost a year and a half. After that, I didn't touch the 14's unless I missed a shift. Here's a quick synopsis of my runs:

Of 20 runs, I missed shifts on 7 passes. That's a miss rate of 35%.
Of 20 runs, I had 2 2.3 sixties, 3 2.2's, 10 2.1's, and 5 2.0's.
Of 20 runs, I had 7 14 second passes, 11 13 second passes, and 2 runs where I just cruised after screwing up.
For the day, I trapped 100mph or greater where I didn't miss a shift
Once I dropped the pressure to 19psi, I didn't touch the 14's again unless I missed a shift.
On one run(#15), I hit a 13.9@100 and had a passenger. The guy was maybe 6'1", and around 200lbs.
On one run, I missed fourth and still ran a 13.8@98.
I had three passes that beat my previous best. Not by a lot, but better nonetheless.

Of the 20 runs, I had 5 passes where I broke into the 8's in the 1/8th. I haven't been in the 8's since the last time I saw the 13's in December of 05. Two of those were 8.8's.

I'm averaging 21mph in the last half of the track. Less than I had hoped.

My 13th run netted a 13.711@101.60, followed up by a 13.708@101.99.

There's still a couple of tenths left in the launch, so I hope to hit a low 13.5 or high 13.4. But I think I'm done for power. I might trap 103 in cooler weather.

And for davidv, I haven't scanned the slips yet.

Sorry for the long post.

Those are pretty good times for a sedan. Thats pretty cool. 20 runs in one day too. I would like to go to a track like that. Just to be able to do more then like 5-6 passes at my track is a blessing. Its also about a 2 hour drive for me!

I'd love to come out Sunday, but that's my son's 10 year birthday. Saturday is looking very nice, ~55 degrees.

You'll be at the z nationals thing the week after next won't you?

Here are the slips. Sorry for the quality, but my scanner is crappy.

The white timeslip is my best time. It was against my best friend's stage 2 SRT-4. For that run, he had a passener filming. You can ignore the reaction times; I wasn't running against the lights that day.

The yellow slip was the previous run, which was my PB for all of 30 minutes. I was in the right lane for both runs.
