SLK350 has better trap speeds than a stock Z?
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I also have a SLK350 and was wondering how it can put up better trap speeds than a stock Z.
I've seen stock SLK350s trapping 103-104mph with less power and approximately the same weight as the 350Z. It wasn't until the '07 350Zs appeared that I saw 104mph trap speeds in stock form.
Here are some stats on the SLK350
Net power 268 hp @ 6,000 rpm
Net torque 258 lb-ft @ 2,400 - 5,000 rpm
Curb weight 3,255 lb/1,475 kg (manual), 3,295 lb/1,495 kg (automatic)

I would say this should/could go in the Off-topic/ other vehicles thread, but whatever I guess.
I believe the SLK350 has some crazy gears in it. The auto is a 7 speed I believe. I thought they ran something crazy like high 12's as well. Atleast the AMG version. This is off the top of my head though, and its tired right now, so I could be off.

The auto has 7 gears which would give it the gearing advantage, but then again, the 6-speed manual version of the SLK350 puts up the same times and trap speeds.
The AMG version of the SLK, the SLK55 comes equipped only as a 7speed auto, but it has quicker shifts then the 7speed auto in the regular SLK.
Not sure what numbers the SLK55 puts up, but the SLK350 puts up mid to high 13s and traps 102-104. The 1/4 mile time is comparable to the 350Z, but the trap speeds are normally a few mph faster.
I don't mean to magazine race, but the SLK350 puts up better 0-100mph time then the Z by nearly a second according to some mags. This along with the trap speeds has me wondering. Haven't seen any dynos for this car, but perhaps it is underrated or has less drivetrain loss.
The street racing section of this forum is now defunct, but I remember reading threads about lightly modded Zs taking the SLK350s from about third gear on.

Okay I haven't gone to the dragstrip with the SLK. My local track is LACR which is a high altitude track, so if I do venture out there in the future, I wouldn't produce those 104mph trap speeds.
I'm not a big drag racer, but do enjoy highway runs at times, hence my interest in trap speeds. Even if I do go to the drag strip sometime, I probably wouldn't go with the SLK since it's an auto. Sure I would get more consistent times with the auto, but it takes away a good deal from the fun.
I don't mean to mag race, but yeah, overall the SLK gets higher trap speeds than the 350Z. The 104 trap speed was from a road and track article I believe. Again the magazines don't mean everything, but according to the mags, the 350Z only managed a 104mph trap with the '07 engine.
Also from personal experience, I feel the SLK pulls better up top, especially anywhere after 80mph or so. Just curious to why this is so since the SLK has less HP and weighs roughly the same.

I don't usually tend to trust those magazine times because you never know if the runs they made were done with an accelerometer which will tend to exaggerate trap speeds a bit, or on a track.
That said I have no idea about the SLK350 times, maybe it is just a higher trapping car? I'd be more convinced if I could look at a large group of actual timeslips for each car than timeslips for one car and mag times for another.
I just went looking for actual timeslips on dragtimes.com and didn't have any luck. There was one vehicle with an actual stock timeslip and that was 14.32 @ 97.4 at Firebird in Phoenix on a pretty decent day for drag racing. There were other times listed with 101, 103, 104 mph traps but those cars were not stock, or were done with accelerometers not actual tracks. So basically I found nothing helpful lol.

haha...I was actually joking but I went to a MB forum and they just talked about how people thought it was a chick car and there was even a poll to find out how many men actually bought one. Putting that with the LACK of 1/4 / track times and you have a place where no man would/should feel comfortable.
After digging around.. Ive seen a best of 13.6 @ 103 and worst time of 14.1 seconds @ 102 mph....
Anyone else?
